I did performed your suggestion and it didn't work. The dvd player still wouldn't play any DVDs. I thank you for your suggestion, though. When I signed up for Premium service last Wednesday, 8/18, (over four days ago), it was my goal to have the answers I needed by Friday, 8/20, and perform this project over this past weekend. Here it is Monday, 8/23, and we are back at square One. Well, I had to seek another source in order to try to complete this project by Sunday evening and was able to successfully remove the broken DVD player and install my replacement DVD player. Everything is now working perfectly. I hate to say this but I'm glad I didn't take the advice of your predecessor who gave me information on removing the dashboard and the navigator and radio units, although he personally did not know how. Well, that is totally NOT the way to access the DVD player. So, I will request a refund for the premium service fee I paid because my problem could not be solve by FixYa.com. Thanks anyway.
Just a thought tho. have you tried resetting the dvd player ? ... this would be accomplished just by pulling the fuse for about 15 minutes. if that item requires a security code make sure you know it and how to enter it before you interupt the power.
was looking at that picture and the wood trim bazel is likely a press fit. once you have removed that it will be obvious to you how to swap out the dvd player.
all the fuses should be under the dash board. failing not being able to locate the right fuse you can just unhook the battery for a few minutes. BEFORE you do that make sure you have any needed codes for the radio and or dvd player.

The trim panel around the NAV unit just pops out, there are 4-6 screws which hold the NAV unit in place. Disconnect the wires (they only fit in the correct holes) and pull it out.
This video is for a 2006, but might help you anyway.
Yes, you should detach the battery, and make sure that if there is a security code for the NAV or DVD units, that you have them and know how to use them.
To remove the DVD unit, from what I can see, you remove the NAV unit, then remove what appears to be 2-3 screws and a wire clip from the DVD unit, and it should slide out toward the shifter console. You may also need to remove the trim around the DVD unit, but from the images I've seen at the Acura dealer yesterday, I couldn't identify more than 2 screws, one on either side of the unit.
To prevent damage, it's probably best to remove the front trim panel from the DVD unit anyway. The reason for removing the NAV system is to allow easier access to the DVD's wire clip. The harness doesn't appear to be long enough to come fully out from the dash area, and you could damage the harness by tugging or pulling on it.
That would probably work as well.
I have to be honest - I've never actually pulled the unit from the car. Everything I told you was from talking to a service rep at an Acura dealer, who suggested pulling the NAV unit so that you could reach the connections at the rear of the DVD player.
The screws holding the DVD player, if there are any, would be on the face, behind the trim piece that surrounds the DVD player itself.

Usually answered in minutes!
I appreciate your answer but you didn't read my problem thoroughly. I did not ask about the NAV unit at all. There is no DVD player in in. I have a 2004 MDX Touring model with the DVD entertainment system. It is the DVD PLAYER I am asking about. The player is located below the radio where the dash board meets the gear shifter console panel. Please include in your explanation how to get the dvd player separated from/out of where it is secured (to the car body) along with what needs to be done once it is out. Additional, in another YouTube video, the technician advised to detach battery when he demonstrated a replacement of an electrical component. Is that something I should do for this project? Thank you.
Thank you for your response. I've gone online and saw some great frontal views of the MDX's dash & console where you can really see where the DVD player is. Here's the link for you too.

From this view, you can see the dashboard is two-toned. It shows that the wood grain panel surrounding the NAV and radio units is in the dark brown colored dashboard (in gallery photo) and this section looks like a separate dashboard piece from the light brown dashboard [U-shaped under the radio buttons & contains the ashtray and cig lighter] and wood grained panel console piece that meet where the DVD player sits in front of the gear shift. (I know the light brown sections on the immediate sides of the steering wheel can be removed.)
It looks like I should be able to remove the separate light brown U-shaped dashboard piece because there is a break where it lines up on its left side to the panel that is to the right of the steering wheel panel and on its right side where there is a break to line up to the left side of the glove compartment door). Then, if I remove the two panels located on the sides of the gear shift console, it looks like I should be able to access the DVD player from its sides (because the side panels are gone) without removing/disturbing the dark brown dash section above where the NAV/radio units are located.
With the emergency brake on and the gear shifter moved to the furthest position closest to the console storage compartment, it looks like I should have enough frontal clearance also to pull the DVD player forward & rotate sideways to access the back of it. I could then unplug the connections in the back, exchange with the replacement player, reconnect the plugs into the back of the replacement DVD player and slide it back in place. I hope you were able to visual follow my mental diagram. Does this sound/look possible to you? Or am I out in left field with this idea?
Please look at the gallery photo carefully and let me know. I'd like to attempt this is weekend. Thanks so much.
The reason why I came up with the idea I presented a few minutes ago is because watching the video you provided looks like the DVD player is too far down below the NAV/radio unit to reach in, unscrew DVD player from the car, and unplug the connections in the back of the player. Also, with the dark brown dash still in place over the light brown dash piece above the DVD player, I can't see how that will give me clearance to unscrew the DVD player or access the connections on its backside. Thank you.
Hello. I need the assistance of an ANOTHER expert who HAS worked on a 2004 Acura MDX's entertainment system, specifically, the DVD Player. And, this expert needs to be familiar with the 2004 model because recent MDX models have a different dashboard setup (placement of equipment and new features). I don't want to receive speculations about how one thinks the DVD player can be removed. I need to hear from a technician who has replaced a DVD player directly or can consult with a technician who has so I can receive sound guidance and direction. I don't want to damage anything while trying to replace my DVD player. I want to get in and out of the dashboard and replace the DVD player unit. I need an expert who can tell me what to do in detail and what to look out for.
To talk with a Acura dealer service rep like my last expert did is nothing better than what I can do. And from the service reps I've come across, they are not going to give good suggestions on how to do a job yourself because that is lost business for them. It has been three days now and I have no better information than before I paid for your assistance. I will admit I am getting frustrated because the first expert response didn't even address my DVD player at all to now reading that he isn't familiar with the mechanics of a 2004 MDX's entertainment system at all. At least he was honest today to say he's never replaced the DVD player but I wish he referred my question to another technician 3 days ago instead of wasting both of our time.
I would appreciate the new expert who is familiar with Acura's 2004 MDX with the entertainment system read from my initial comment to the last comment I received from FixYa's expert. Speculations are not useful expert advice. I can speculate myself. I look forward to receiving sound, accurate and thorough response/directions. Thank you very much.
Great thought! I will try your suggestion to reset the DVD player first before attempting to take everything apart. I will look for the reset code and instructions now. Can you tell me where the fuse box is located? Thank you.
Thank you. I checked and I don't think the dvd player requires a code because I only have codes written down for my car key, nav and radio units.
Is the fuse box usually on the passenger side under the dashboard? Do you have a diagram of where it may be located in the 2004 MDX because I prefer to try to locate the fuse box instead of resetting devices (code, pre-programmed seat seatings, nav, radio, etc.) and I don't know how this may affect my alarm systems.
If this plan doesn't work, I will try to access the dvd player before it gets dark today. Does the dismantling plan I wrote about earlier sound feasible? Or is there another order of separating the dashboard and removing the dvd player that you can tell me about before I leave my house shortly.
Thank you.
