Question about 2000 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

We own a 2000 Subaru Impreza Sedan. It randomly won't start. The engine doesn't turn over. I can't remember if lights and radio work or not. it's very random though. We've speculated that it may be the alarm system disengaging the starter but haven't tried to fix that yet. We've replaced the battery and the starter so we know it's not those. Any help?!?!?!?

If it's after market alarm system, (not the original factory instaled) then you're probaly right that would be the problem, or if you have aftermarket remote start instaled, they are causing many issue also.
or
ignition is not worn out is it? do you have lots of keys attached to ignition key ? (lot of weight can wear it out)

the ignition is worn out. We can take the key out while the car is running. Why would that be causing the problem?

Does it start after few attempts, playing with the key ?
Worn ignition = worn connections in it, electrical current doesn’t flow thru, car doesn't start

2006 Impreza randomly dies, When I try to restart there's no power to the starter. After a few minutes it will turn over and start but usually quit very soon. After cool down its fine until next time

the first thing you would need to do is have your computers can hook up a diagnostic scanner to see if there are any codes

I have a 1993 subaru impreza 4 door L sedan with

mcdevito75 here, You"ll have to manually turn the camshaft gear and other gears to re align the marks, use the starter to align the crankshaft marks. Of course you"ll need the shop manual to show you these marks. Worse case, have the car towed to you local shop for repair.

Subaru impreza

Right on the top of the mass air intake where the air cleaner attaches. It has a small host running toward the front of the engine and two screws to remove it. Try cleaning it before replaceing it.

Warning engine light

I could not find a code for the neutral switch . The neutral safety switch only works when you start the vehicle, so it will not start in gear. I would take the car to another shop for a second opinion.
