I have a '97 GMC sierra. When I was driving the other day, as I accelerated it started to sputter. Now it takes 20 mins to start. And when I do get it started in netruel when I push the gas all the way to the floor it sputters and sounds like there's no power...anybody have an ideas?

You don't have a clutch in that automatic, check your transmission fluid first. Make sure you run your truck for 10 min. or so before you check the fluid level. If your fluid is correct then take it to a mechanic, they can check your transmission with their computer and see exactly what is happening when it can't find 4th gear.
I would first check the fuel filter to see if it is clogged. If that is good, test the fuel pump to see if it is working properly. Next check the fuel injectors are not clogged.
Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If the response is jumpy or erratic at all, replace TPS. Thank you for using fixya and good luck.
Hello. The GMC Sierra has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The GMC Sierra comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.
