No. The fuel pump can be accessed by lifting the read seat. Press on the front edge of the read seat to lift it up and this will expose an access door. Remove the bolts on the access dooor and the fuel pump is visible. Disconnect wiring harness and run engine to depressurize feul system. Now remove bolts on fuel pump to replace with a new one.

Here are instructions for replacment with a diagram of the fuel pump components my only suggestion would be instead of draining the tank and dropping the fuel tank if you unbolt the box and using a jack and and some wood lift the fuel tank side of the box this will give you access to the tank and fuel pump/ sending unit. It will save you time and the hastle of replacing the tank straps which are prone to snapping at the threads when trying to remove the nuts.If these brake you will have to replace them.

Hello michelle...here are the basic steps for tank removal...
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the tank.
Raise the rear of your vehicle and support it with jackstands.
Remove the clamp on the filler neck and the vent tube hose.
If equipped, remove the gauge hose which is attached to the frame.
If equipped, remove the fuel tank shield.
While supporting the tank securely with a floor jack (a 2 x 6 helps), remove the support straps and insulators.
Lower the tank until the gauge wiring, electrical connections and all hoses can be removed. The wires and hoses are not long enough to reach the ground, so watch closely.
Remove the tank.
Good luck, please take time to rate me if you find this response helpful and thanks for usein FIXYA.
