The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep it ticking over. Last week (Sat) i went on a round trip of 20 miles in traffic. The next day (Sun) when i went to start the car nothing happened it was dead flat. I removed the battery charged it for 3 hours only. The car started first time, i then drove 1 mile parked for 4 hours and drove back home 1 mile. The next day (Mon) thebattery was dead flat again,so i re-charged it for 15 hours, following the instructions on my charger. (Tue) it started straight away i drove it 1 mile, parked for 6 hours, then drove home but when i tried to start the car on (Wed) it was dead flat again. I have just re-charged the battery over night. Started the car. I have undone the terminals to the battery to see if the charge drains out of the battery without it being attached to the car.

The serpentine belt has no bearing on the camshaft timing, so my guess is that you mistimed the camshaft timing for no reason.

The serpentine belt is external and is driven by the crankshaft and runs the alternator, the A/C, Steering Pump and water pump.

If your CAMSHAFT belt broke, the Ford Fiesta has an interference engine, so you have bent valves and damaged pistons.

I think you just have a failed dash display module, the whole thing is just a computer that takes info from sensors and converts it to readable analog data like speed, miles driven and so on for engine functions.

Best to use a OBD2 code scanner and check for any stored codes.

It depends on how you drive the truck. The computer has lost its memory, usually from disconnecting the battery. Once that happens, the truck has to be driven in various conditions before the memory is relearned.
In most cases, you have to do some highway and city driving AFTER the engine is up to normal temp. Usually 40 or 50 miles of each is enough. And not all in the same trip either.

My friend, the battery is on all of the time. You don't turn it on and off. If the car fails to start, it could be a problem with a safety interlock system, a failed start solenoid or a weak battery. I am leaning toward a failed start solenoid in your 14 year old car. There is a safety switch on the clutch if manual shift, on the gear selector if automatic and possibly other places as well.

With a volt meter, place the red probe on the starter side of the solenoid (the cable opposite the battery side) and the black probe on ground. Of course you will set your meter to DC at some voltage higher than 12 volts. Have someone turn the key and try to start the car. If you get a reading of 12 volts, I would suspect the starter. If there is no reading, I would suspect the solenoid. While you have the volt meter out, check the voltage of the battery. It should be at least 11 Volts and maybe as high as 13 with the engine not running. With the engine running, expect to see as high as 15 1/2 volts.

The consumption you will achieve on one of these cars (now 12 years old with lots of miles driven) depends upon:
1. how they are driven; and
2. how they are mechanically maintained; and
3. running sufficiently high tyre pressures to minimise rolling resistance; and
4. the octane rating of fuel used and whether or not it is an ethanol blended fuel.(You will need to consume more fuel for the same distance traveled if using an ethanol blended versus a straight non-ethanol fuel).

A poorly maintained vehicle will usually give poor fuel economy as will one that is driven hard.

i think it could last, factory says every 105,000 miles even though the car is 11 years old it hasn't been driven for all those years, remember on average you put 10-15,000 miles on a car yearly, so your car is missing like 85,000 miles on it which is like the car wasnt being driven for 8 of those years
