Could be a couple of things. 1) bad plug or spark gap. check plug for burning on electrode. check gap. if you replace 1 then replace them all. 2) check wires for any white lines. mainly around the boots, but check it all. the white lines are tell tale signs of arcing. replace if needed. 3) chech distributor cap & rotor for arcing. if you have a coil pack it could be whatever pack is controlling #6

SOURCE: how to fix misfire cylinder # 6

DTC P0306 - Cylinder #6 Misfire Detected
A P0306 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #6.

Symptoms may include:

the engine may be harder to start
the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
other symptoms may also be present

A code P0306 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

About possible solutions, if there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Po306code?

Misfire in cylinder #6. Could be bad spark plug, spark plug wire, cop coil, bad intake/exhaust valve, clogged fuel injector or piston/cylinder problem. What's the year, make, model, engine and have you been following the recommended maintenance schedule for new plugs?

Can catalytic converter on 98 Pontiac grand prix cause misfire on cylinders in car

No, a plugged converter would cause the engine not to breathe properly. Too much back pressure would stall the engine or make it run very poorly. It would not be local to any one cylinder-all of them would be affected.

To diagnose a misfire in one cylinder, well, you start at that cylinder. It could be ignition related- the spark plug and spark plug wire for #6, possibly the ignition coil for #6 in the coil pack for the engine. (A v-6 would have 3 coils in the coil pack, one coil for 2 cylinders.) It could also be fuel related, so the fuel injector for cylinder 6 should be considered. And the last reason for a misfire is usually the most expensive repair: low compression in #6. This may be a head gasket problem, or a piston ring problem, or one of the valves for #6 may not be sealing well, causing low compression and the resultant misfire. The engine computer codes a misfire when it senses low power output from that particular cylinder. The misfire causes a lag in crankshaft rotation, and the crankshaft position sensor senses it.

Ck engine light is on and miss fire #5

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

2004 trailblazer code po306 and we changed out plugs, coil and still po306

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0306 is defined by SAE J2012 (REV, DEC 2007) as "Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected".

To put it plain and simple, there is a problem with cylinder #6 in your engine that is causing it to misfire.

Misfires can be caused by several things. One of the things that must be understood is that a misfire is simply one or more cylinders that are not producing the power that they should. - especially when compared to other cylinders in the same engine.
The things that can cause this include, but are not limited to:
> Ignition system
> Fuel delivery system
> Fuel injection system
> Cylinder compression (which can be affected by many of the things below)
> blown head gasket
> Burned or bent valves
> Vacuum leaks
> Faulty wiring
> cracked piston or broken piston rings
> Restricted exhaust
> malfunctioning Powertrain/Engine Control Module (PCM or ECM)

To fix the code, you must first diagnose to determine which of these things is causing the misfire, then repair accordingly.

I would go with the ones autozone gave to you.then I would check the coil packs for those 2 cylinders and see if that's the problem. If that ain't the problem then I would check the crank sensor

P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal to vary, The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

When is the code detected?
- Engine Cylinder #5 and #6 is Misfiring.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/loss of power
- Hard start
- Engine hesitation

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #5 and #6
