My 04 VW Jetta blew thick white smoke from tailpipe after freeway drive. No indicator lights came on, all oil leaked out (after smoke started)... is this engine or could it be just the turbos? Right before smoke started, noticed unusual sound (slight) and I could not excelerate using turbo (it had speed but not the burst that turbo gives)

Unfortunately, I am a complete neophyte when it comes to auto work, so can't do it myself, but may have a handle on a trusted mechanic that will. its about a $1200 job, getting a turbo from VW from what i remember was the easy part the problem from the dealer was they didnt carry the exhaust studs and you needed to try and keep the ones from the original turbo, which is not easy considering how hot those get making it almost impossible to get them out in good shape. its about a $1200 job, getting a turbo from VW from what i remember was the easy part the problem from the dealer was they didnt carry the exhaust studs and you needed to try and keep the ones from the original turbo, which is not easy considering how hot those get making it almost impossible to get them out in good shape.

IF YOU COULD DO IT YOUR SELF.CHEAPER TO BUY REBUILT KIT.WITH BEARINGS AND SEAL.LONG AS THE TURBO BLADES AND SHAFT LOOK OKAY.TO REMOVE OLD BOLTS AND NUTS.YOU NEED TO USE A GOOD PENETRATING OIL.LET IT SOAK IN.THAT HELPS.
