Try replacing the "Crank Shaft Position Sensor" this two sensors "Cam" and "Crank" communicate so if one is acting up it sends the wrong signal to the computer, I recently had the exact same problem but in reverse and a different vehicle, the other thing, although not very usual is the wire harnnes that connects to the sensor itself could not be working properly. Good Luck!

What is trouble code 41 for 1988 olds 98???

It indicates a problem with the cam sensor. The problem could be a defective cam sensor or it could also be the magnet attached to the cam gear that the sensor detects. They have a history of falling off after many heating and cooling cycles. If the magnet (about the size of a dime) is missing, replacing the cam sensor won't help. The magnet will need to be replaced.

What is the funtion of cam shaft position sencer

Camshaft position sensor gives the position of cam related to the engine crankshaft which is useful for the fuel supply; ignition, injection, valve opening and closing system. Magnetic type sensor is used on the timing cover over the camshaft gear. Camshaft position sensor is same as that of crank shaft speed sensor in terms of construction and working. On 3.8 engines I have seen problems with the cam and crank sensors - also the harmonic balancer and the magnet on the cam gear.
You might want to take a look at those issues too.

On a 2006 chrysler sebring had no start first code was camshaft sensor after establishing timing belt was broken replaced belt, absolutely no mistake on marks, no more camsensor code, as cam is rotati

If this is a 2.5 LV-6 engine, This is an interference engine. If the belt broke, you may have bent valves. Have you done a compression test? Second issue with this engine is cam sensor failure. In the Distributor and whole unit is simplest repair.

OBD will not pass on saturn. It tells me I need a camshaft position sencer. My garage doesnt want to mess with it.Where is this item located and is it an easy replaced piece?

The 4 cylinder engine in your 1996 Saturn SL doesn't use a cam sensor. I know, then how could there be a code for the cam sensor? Well, The electronic ignition (EI) module supplies a signal to the PCM whenever it determines that the #4 cylinder fired on its compression stroke.

You should start by checking to make sure your spark plug wire terminals on the ignition coils are not corroded. Using a multimeter, check the resistance and continuity of each ignition wire. If your car is misfiring, replace your spark plug wires and have the code cleared at your local AutoZone or Advance Auto, unless you have a code scanner.

If the code comes back, most likely you have a bad crankshaft position sensor throwing the code. While the engine is running there should be a +5 volts on the crank sensor everytime the magnetic pickup reads the crankshaft. Using a multimeter you can check the voltage to see if the sensor is functioning properly.
