Transmission doesn't stay in one gear

I have a 92 sigma 3000V, some months ago, around town, 50khph, with the OD on, the transmission started to cylce through the gears and not stay in one gear, paritcularly on a long streach of road. The problem wouldn't occur if the OD button was off. So, I just did a change of the tranmission fluid, the old stuff looked good, clearsih red colour but there was no real effect on the shifting of gears. Then two other problems started happening. Occasionaly, when stationary, shifting to D, the car stalls, or when driving for a while, the transmission shifts into neutral, the selector doesn't, but there is no drive to the wheels and the engine revs and revs.

Possible faults - *check the shifting cable selector is aligned with the neutral starting switch * check engine mounts *make sure the fluid level is between the marks on the dipstick running hot * overdrive friction and drive plates have worn out * the torque converter or oil pump has a problem *do a torque converter stall test hope you used only mitsubishi automatic oil when changed *check the throttle position sensor * temp sensor for the auto the TCU has faults or needs to be replaced

92 dodge ram 150 not shifting

Two things happen on the Dodge's. 1. the rear O2 sensor shorts out and meses things up. 2. the Inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) shrinks and causes a delayed up shift.

Why is my transmission struggling to maintain gear at 35 mph?

I would take it to 2 or 3 or more different shops and ask for an estimate to fix it.. they will probably know what causes this condition. and probably will not charge you anything.. if they want to charge you for an estimate go somewhere else. you really do not want to trust them.. When you get several estimates and several of them tell you the same thing then its a matter of who do you trust??.. Check the shops out on Yelp.. actually sounds like it could be something simple like throttle presure adjustment.. But i cannot see your car from here.

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

Had a used trans. put in my 92 honda accord 2 months ago. it was shifting hard going into 2nd gear. pulled TCU from the car the trans. had came from and put it in, still same problem. this past week D4...

your transmission has external shift solonoids towards the front one is for 2 gears and the other for the other two i believe the lower one is the one you want ot replace they rust up and start binding inside.

My GMC has 311632 miles on it. I just changed the 4L60E transmission a few months ago and now it wont shift out of first unless I manually put it in second gear. all the gears from park rev. nuetral works...

The transmission may be in Limp mode. The transmission is on the same fuse as the MAF, O2 sensors and at least one other sensor - if an O2 shorts out, it will blow the fuse and the trans will go into limp-home mode. Be sure the trans has power and the fuse is not blown before doing anything else.

What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Trans does not upshift out of first, speedometer reads zero at all times: VSS failure. Easy fix on rear of transmission, but xmember must come out to access VSS.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Transmission does not shift automatically, only manually. Swap in a known-good PCM, check wiring, check other sensors such as VSS and TPS.

3rd gear starts, can manually shift through all gears. When car has been turned off for a bit, then back on it will run normally.: VSS dropoff w/ Hi-stall converter. The rpms are too high, but VSS is showing no movement. Happens after a tire burning take-off. Doesn't store a code, will not throw a CEL (I've heard that it will store a code if it happens 3 or more times). Cure: Reprogram PCM for VSS dropoff -- PCMforLess knows about it.

Here are just some of the common things you have described with the issues your transmission has. Good luck and keep me posted.

Transmission stays in first gear

it would cost less to replace the transmission than to have that one rebuilt shop around and see if you cant find a trans for it and have someone put it in for you

Start testing speed and position sensors regardless of where they are. Electronic transmissions are sensitive to any of them.
