The end of the cable connected to the latch mechanism to release the hood went bad. It will probably needs to be replaced. Looking into the hood grill, use a screw drive to push in the the latch ( it locates in the center of the hood) in such a way it can pivot out of the bar then the hood can be released. You can observe the latch from another car to get the picture before doing it. Good luck.
Sounds like the latch is slightly out of adjustment. Have someone pull up on the hood edge while you release the hood from inside. Once open, spray some white lithium grease on both components of the hood latch. The latch strike bolts usually have slotted holes to allow for adjustment. If you loosen them slightly, and then close the hood, it should align itself, then open the hood carefuly and retighten the bolts.. IF you cannot get the hood open, chances are the cable is loose from the release, and you may have to remove part of the grille to access the underside of the latch to replace the cable.
Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.
Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.
Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.
Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.
