1999 I30 Infiniti. While driving periodically the car will slow down as if I took my foot off the gas. No engine lights or different sounds from the car. Your timing belt or chain could be broke. First model year for the I 30 in the US was 1996 and it used a timing chain. Have you checked compression yet ?
Since it is a double overhead cam engine, it uses one large and two small chains with gears. You'll probably have to take the timing cover off to find out what is causing the noise. One of the tensioner components may have failed and the chain may be loose.
