Most likely you've got a timed lock programed into your menu parameters. You will have to go to your main vehicle instrumental menu and clear that option. This may have been inadvertantly done by one of the other operators of the vehicle.
ok on that vehicle it is under the front skid plate , there is either a hole in it showing you the filter is there, if there is not a hole there then you have to take the skid plate off using a 10mm socket, and the filter is right there.... ALL VAHICLES HAVE OIL FILTERS, either the can type, or a paper filter under a round cap with a plastic nut on top of it... that other guy needs to learn about vehicles before trying to help someone cause he doesn't know the right stuff...
I own a 2005 Xterra Off Road and if yours is an "Off Road" model, you have skid plates. Your oil filter is located behind a little door on the bottom of one of the skids. Two screws hold the door on. As for the oil pan, it is most likely just hidden by a skid as well. It will be on the very bottom of the engine.
Probably the front differential, your probably hearing the famous differential gear whine. Change the oil, put Lucas for gears in it. You can get a hand operated oil pump to **** it out through the dip stick if it has one. Then fill it with the recommended amount.
