91 eagle talon timing

So, my talon skipped time (looks like the camshaft at the front of the engine was a tooth behind the other one) and now it's running very rough even at an idle. So I've got all the pulleys and the timing belt off the engine but I don't know how the timing marks are supposed to be aligned (on the camshafts and the crankshaft at least). Could the engine skipping time have caused any damage to the valves?

If its only off by one tooth it won't cause any damage.

Kill switch on fuel pump relay switch

If your timing belt is slightly off by a tooth or more it wont stay running. if the cam and crank sensors dont see the same #1 strock at the same time it causes rough running and stalling problems, as for your viper reach under your dash and take the fusses out. this will dissable it.

What does p1390 code mean?

P1390 is:Timing belt skipped one tooth or more. This problem needs to be fixed as soon as possible. You may just need to replace the timing belt, but I would look real close at the tensioner.

I have a 1994 eagle talon i replaced the water pump and put on a new timing belt and i can not get the timing right i have tried everything i know what could i be doing wrong? I have made sure the number...

I'm looking at the manual (68030 Haynes) and it shows that if you have the DOHC you make the 2 marks onthe camshafts meet in the center.

That would be at the 3 o'clock position for the left one, and 9 o'clock position for the right one. the crank sprocket and oil pump sprocket align exactly with the timing marks.

NOW, on the SOHC single cam pulley, crankshaft and oil pump pulley all are to be aligned with their index marks, centered, and the balance shaft is to be with the weighted side down to prevent vibration.

I've done the SOHC and the marks are fairly centered when instlalling. Once you've got the belt on in either engine, you should rotate the engine in the normal direction for 2 full revolutions and recheck the timing marks at all positions, readjust, rotate and recheck until set on the marks.

Good luck,

Timing belt stipped

About the easiest way, is to put all belts back on properly, and turn engine over before complete re-assembly and check for compression.
I'm not able at this time to confirm that the 1.8L is, or isn't an interference engine, but regardless, you need to do this to see if any damage occurred anyway. Double check your oil pump sprocket & silent shaft timing. It can be 180 degrees out & still run, but engine may have a vibration when running.
