Need to look at ignition module since it provides power to primary terminal of ignition coil. If there is no power to the primary coil, then no power to the second coil. If there is no power on the secondary terminal of ignition coil connecting to the distributor then there is no spark at spark plugs. Good luck

1983 oldsmobile cutlass supreme,wont start

Well, you know the ignition coil has to be good. then the ignition control module inside the distributor has to be good. It controls the ignition coil firing times. This module can be tested at a parts store. And then, also in the distributor and attached to the ICM is the pick-up coil which tells the computer crankshaft position, so the computer knows when to signal the Ignition Control Module that it is to cause spark out of the coil. These are the components of the ignition system, so you know how to check them. Ignition coil, ICM, pick-up coil, and the pcm, computer.

First, check that power is getting to the coil when the key is turned to on. The coil must have battery voltage applied to it before it can cause spark. If there is power there, test the ignition coil, test the ICM, then the pick-up coil. If your wiring is good, one of them components may have failed. And of course, the last thing to suspect is the computer, the pcm. Hope you don't have to get that far.

1991 n13 nissan pulsar 1.6 liter motor I have just replaced the distributer and coil but I am still gettin no spark what do I do

Did you even bother to check and see if the distributor and coil had any battery power to work with before you blamed them for the problem and sent them to their grave? I'm So-o-o-o-o glad I'm not an auto part....No such thing as a fair trial where facts must be presented and proven before you can be locked (thrown) away......

It could be anything in the ignition circuit, including the ignition switch itself or a break in any of the many wires involved....Proper diagnosis required.

After the car runs for about 15 mins it will die when driving or after sitting for a few min. Sounds like now spark when cranking over. If it sits awhile it will restart and maybe not die again for days.

some component in the wires is heating up-things wearout in older cars--its still gettin spark but inspec plug wires and distributer for wear-ignition module cud be failin--------fuel system may hav issues like the pump or regulator--------run a scan

Car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

No spark

If you are checking it properly, then the cause would be the igniter (electronic points). It is inside the distributer, has 4 wires going to it. It is always recommeded to repl. the coil and igniter as a pair. A bad coil can burn out an igniter, and vice versa.

Cant get any spark

You're not getting spark out of the ignition coil? Do you have power to the coil? What about ground? If you have spark from the coil to the distributer, but nothing coming out of the distributer, then check your cap and rotor.
