A burning belt usually indicates a seized idler pulley on those gm cars. You will have to find which pulley is seized and change, it before replacing the belt or the new belt will only burn and snap again.

Sounds like the ac compressor locked up and the belt snapped from rubbing on it. Once the belt snaps, the water pump stops and the engine overhears.

Have a 1996 buick lesabre 1800 engine. The serpentine belt was replaced recently. Drove it the other day with the AC running. Shut it down in the driveway before turning off the engine. Later on went to go...

Yes the pump should turn freely it could be the output shaft bearing or the compressor is out of oil. the best bet is to get a belt that will fit everything but the air compressor this will give you time to find the money to replace the pump and repair the AC systems. by passing the A/C won't hurt anything it will allow you to run it without A/C/ till you can fix the pump.

Replace serpentine belt 96 town & country, also does the tensioner ever freeze up?

Any bearing mounted pulley can "freeze" if a bearing wears out. The most common result it it can burn up a belt which will break with the engine running. When it snaps it MIGHT damage anything it hits - usually with no bad results. ANY bad pulley (or pulley driven part such as the alternator) needs to be replaced before a new belt is installed or the new belt will be damaged from the friction. To replace the serpentine belt - there should be a belt routing decal on the underside of the hood or on the shroud covering the radiator.

Serpentine belt is wrong size or don't know if ac was factory??

If you are going through belts some thing is not correct. I would check the automatic tensioner. I have had 2 go bad on different cars.

Serpentine belt slipped off due to anti-freeze.

Probably wet electrical components. Use an air hose to blow everything off , and let it dry good before you try it. Or, the mass air flow sensor could be dead.
