The car gauges for the odometer, gas and temperature are not working, also when i put the directional signals some times they work some times they don't. Usually they don't work in mornings. other thing the brake light in the back windshield stays on until I hit the brake pedal two or three times when I turn off the car.

The brake light is a separate issue and is either a bad brake light switch or the switch is out of adjustment. The instrument cluster is a known problem and can be a broken solder joint or a bad ground connection inside the negative battery terminal. Do a search for caravan instrument cluster and you'll find lots of info

I would guess the brake fuse ( this does not use the same fuse as the tail lights/blinkers) or the ground for the brake light bulb.

SOURCE: All lights work on the rear except the three brake lights

Sounds like the brake light switch has a problem. Located above brake pedal and activated with the brake pedal arm. Check for power going in and coming out when you apply the brake.

My mph, gas, and temp gauges are not working

That's why you don't let you husband work on your car ! Unless he does it for a living .. For MPH there is a VSS - vehicle speed sensor , for the gas there is a sending unit in the fuel tank, for the temp. gauge there is a temp. sensor located in coolant stream on the engine .You more then likely need to have you instrument cluster repaired . GM had a problem with step motors inside the instrument cluster . A step motor is what controls the individual gauge. The sensors are all inputs to the PCM - powertrain control module (engine computer ) .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to C or below if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Fuel Gage
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

When the fuel level is less than 14% (84ohms), the low fuel indicator illuminates.
Odometer
The IPC contains a season odometer and a trip odometer. Momentarily press the trip select/reset switch in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip select/reset switch for greater than 1.5 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The IPC displays the vehicle mileage and trip mileage as determined by the IPC. The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed information from the PCM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected.
PRNDL Display
The IPC displays the selected gear position as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display shall flash all gear positions if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Speedometer
The IPC displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the PCM. The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4000 pulses per mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. The speedometer defaults to 0 mph (0 kph) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit exists.
Tachometer
The IPC displays the engine speed as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 rpm if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine speed sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Why does the the odometer on my 1997 volvo 850 not work but the speedometer does? any ideas

This is a common problem with 850s. The speedometer is driven electrically, while the odometer is mechanical.

There's a tiny little gear inside the odometer that runs it from a motor; it's no longer tied directly to a speedometer cable like older models. What happens is the gear gets old and brittle and loses teeth, at which point it can no longer turn the odometer.

My wife's '96 850 had the same issue when I got it, and a little internet research turned up the answer above. There are companies that make replacement gears you can buy fairly cheaply, but it does require a fair amount of mechanical aptitude to pull the instrument panel and disassemble the speedometer assembly.

One note of caution that I learned the hard way: you have to take the front cover off the instrument panel, exposing all of the gauges. Be very careful not to disturb the position of those little needles; I ended up messing up the gas gauge, speedometer and temperature gauge, and it took a lot of trial and error to get them put back in so they showed the right readings.

If I recall correctly, I found instructions for doing the gear replacement online, but it's been so long that I don't have the web page(s) I found any more. A lot of times the manufacturer of the replacement gears have instructions on their web sites.

IPD USA sells them and has instructions.

Instrument cluster is not working.

The odometer "error" is usually a BCM (body control module) problem, not the instrument panel. All the electrical signals you have lost all go to the BCM before going to the instrument panel.
It could be a simple connector problem.

Yes, the STEPPER MOTORS in the Gauge are bad. There is even a much larger issue with the newer gauges failing after 30K...

Replace the Stepper Motor and your gauges will return or you can

My speedomder and odomorter is not working and neither is the gas gage. The windows do not work either.

I would say that the speedometer and odometer probably a bad speed sensor. They are symbiotic so if the speedometer fails, the odometer will fail as well. If the needle on the gas gauge lies dead on the "E" all the time, I would blame a faulty gas tank sending unit and replace the unit. However, removing the tank out of the car is required for the repair. If the gauge is pegged on "F" at the top of the gauge when the key and/or ignition are on/running and it lies dead only when the car is off, then somewhere there is a short to ground either at the origin, at the destination or along the path of the signal. Still, chances are the sending unit is bad. As for the window, check the fuses in the fuse panel. If they are good then I think you should be confident of a faulty window relay causing the problem.
