Check fig:---- need help readjusting cvvt timing on volvo s80 - 7dca2e9.jpg

CVVT always on intake because cam sensors are always intake.

Slacken off, but do not remove, the (3) screws which secure the timing gear pulley to the variable valve timing (VVT) unit.
Press the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit / timing gear pulley on the camshaft.

Install the center screw which secures the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit to the camshaft and tighten slightly.
Turn the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit anti-clockwise as far as it will go.
Remove the center screw.
Position the upper timing cover.
Turn the timing gear pulley clockwise until the screws at the oval holes are in the limit position.
Continue turning clockwise until the timing gear pulley marking is 1 1/2 Cog before the marking on the upper timing cover
Note: Do not turn anti-clockwise during this procedure!
Check that the timing gear pulley is still in the limit position in the oval holes.
Tighten the center screw in the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit to 120 Nm (88 ft. lbs.) .
Check that the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit does not rotate when tightening.
Install and tighten the center plug to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) .
Turn the variable valve timing (CVVT) unit clockwise to the limit position.
Turn the timing gear pulley so that the markings correspond.

There is a tool that locks the crank in the #1 position. There is a plug behind the starter remove that plug push in the tool and that will line the crank. When you turn the crank and line up the cams watch the cam marks, go passed the cam marks 90 degrees and then turn it back, that will set the VVT gear to be in the right position. Now that should line up the crank and the cams. The cam gear tool fits into the slots in the rear side of the cams.

2000 Volvo s80 t6 engine will not start.

I'm too familiar with the T6 engine, but I *think* the T6 engine has the CVVT solenoid right by the exhaust cam and they are known to get weird and you need to clean it.
I believe Volvo has a gasket with a screen in it to keep it clean.

The cam sensors are pretty sturdy and rarely fail, so I'd check that last.

Did this happen right after a timing belt change? If so, I'd double and triple check that you got everything lined up exactly right. My process is usually to use white-out to mark the old belt and gears and then transfer the marks to the new belt and if all marks still line up when it's back together I am good (and yes, it's been good this far hehe).

If it's the CVVT sensor, buy a new gasket, remove the sensor, soak it in carb cleaner and give it a "work-out" with 12 volts if you have a battery charger or whatnot. It's possibly a fresh 9v battery might work too.

If you got any other codes, even if you don't think they're related, they might be.

I wouldn't touch any other systems if the car would run before and now won't, and all you touched is the cam timing and that's the code you got. Fix that first, THEN if you have other issues, you can tackle them.

Is replacing the Seals and CVVT a part of the timing belt service that is normally done around 105,000 miles? If not and this service is done separately, how much should this run? I had the timing belt...

no
they are different items
get a quote from an accredited service center on the CVVT system
have the fault codes read as it is normally a solenoid or servo that needs replacing
it is a unit that changes the valve timing for different engine speeds and is less than the price suggested

1999 volvo s8 timing belt replaement

What about it??
I wouldn't try it if you don't know how, (specially if this is what is known as an interference engine). Valve timing is *very* delicate and stray pistons love to chew them up!

I need to change my timing belt on my 2002 S60 Volvo. Where can I get a diagram or manual on how to do this?

this is very tricky on a volvo because of the cvvt unit if you have never attempted this in a volvo take it to the dealer it may be expxnsive but its cheaper than buying an engine there is a special sequence for the cvvt unit and there is a possibility of 2 styles and they arent set up the same way actually they are exact opposites from each other

No start

It sounds like the cams are out of sync. There are very specific directions for re-timing the cams and CVVT unit. You will have to take it to a Volvo specialty shop or to the dealer. You might try V70R.COM or BRICKBOARD.COM. Someone there might have the specific instructions, but they are very involved and require special tools to hold the camshafts in place while torquing the CVVT unit.

hope this helps.
