My wife and I are looking at buying a 1994 lincoln mark viii from her aunt, but it is having some running issues at the moment. The car will start and idle (after trying numerous times to start it eventually it will start) but as soon as you touch the gas peddal the car dies. My wife's uncle said it needs a new fuel pump. Just trying to find out if its worth us buying it or not

You need a mobile auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose which part is at fault. He may be able to just reprogram it. You can't fix that system by guesswork and the Ford anti theft system is very complicated.
There should be a Cruise Control relay too. Find one thats the same and switch them out, like the horn relay. If the Cruise starts working then you have a bad relay.
There is a solenoid that unlocks the shifter when the brakes are applied. Check for brake light operation. If no brake lamps, check the brake lamp fuse in the instrument panel fuse box. It is fuse number 11 and is a 10 amp fuse. If blown you will have a short in the system and it will need to be traced and repaired. If you need more help with this issue please ask me here.
you're running rich, the cylinders get flooded with fuel and won't fire. stepping on the gas blows out the excess fuel. take it to the dealer and have the mixture adjusted.
if you tried to jump the veh. when the batt. died, then you may have fried a fusable link in the harness. use a test lite to (CAREFULLY) look for voltage leading away from the batt. also you may want to check and see if someone can hear the relay click on as you try to start. (it is sometimes hard to hear it, so you want minimum back ground noise). good luck!
buy a set of factory manuals used. There is not just one picture.
the fuse box in the driving area is in the owners manual. The engine compartment diagram is in a book called Mark VIII Electrical Vacuum and Troubleshooting Manual.
