The oil pan is where the oil collects on the bottom of the engine before the pump picks it up and circulates it back up through the engine. So it will be the bottom most thing, bolted directly to the bottom of the engine block. Generally found about centered between the front wheels. Hint, looks like a pan with many little bolt heads around its outer perimeter. Rarely obstructions from the road puncture it, and often times with age its gasket leaks.

Um...the ENGINE oil pan is directly under the engine block, the transmission oil pan is directly under the transmission, both items bolted to thier respective main components using lots of bolts.

You most likely hit a curb, the pan is cast aluminum and will break like glass if you hit a curb, the pan can be changed without removing the engine, it is very time consuming, but it can be done.

SOURCE: Newer oil pan gaskets for Ford, not like original..leaking again

2 causes for the leaking are:

  • 2 spacing pads between oil pan and engine are not in place or worn
  • over tightening of bolts on oil pan warping the pan and compromising the seal

no they dont make a partial gasket kit... unless youve damaged the oil pan gasket, the one that ison there should be fine... put some black silicone rtv sealant where the front cover and oil pan/ block meet. if youve damaged the gasket you have to drop the pan.

Is the oil pump in the oil pan on a 2003 Ford explorer 4wd 4.0

The Ford Explorer is know to have Oil Pressure issues. Try replacing the oil pressure sensor first as these sometimes clog up. It's also a much cheaper fix saving you a lot of time, money and unnecessary work if that was the actual problem. The pump should be in the oil pan directly connected to the oil pick up pipe at the Flywheel end of the engine.

Locatte transmission drain plug 2002 xls EXPLORER

Most of the explorers don't have a drain plug, you have to remove the oil pan to drain the fluid, messy and a pain but for some stupid reason they decided not to put a drain plug in them.

I need to find the oil drain plug on a 92 ford explorer eddie bauer.

Hello, it on the side or bottom of the oil pan. The oil pan is the bottom end of the engine. This is were the oil is stored and were the oil pick up the oil for lubrication of the engine. It is a 5/8" plug with a copper or fiber washer. If you are changing the oil make sure that drain plug has it copper or fiber was on it. If not, the plug will leak little droplets. GB...stewbison
