2004 ford ranger edge 3.0LV6. Truck died as I was driving, but it had gas and everything was fine,. someone told me it was my fuel pump, so I had my fuel pump/lines/filter replaced. When I got it back it started up but shut off quickly,. THe man who fixed it told me to find the fuel pump shut off/reset switch (located behind my glove box). If I held that button down while starting it would start and run for 3 hours to 1 day befor dying again. I dident this for a few weeks befor one day it died and now wont start at all. Please help me so I dont have to pay another grand to fix somthing thats not broke.

You may have a bad TPS or throttle position switch. You might be able to borrow a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure at idle. You can disconnect the TPS leads and put the Ohmmeter leads into the TPS(Not the truck harness}. The Ohms should change smoothly as the TPS is opened.

The Crankshaft position sensor is suppose to change the voltage to the fuel pump to increase pressure for the higher RPM. If the fuel pressure does not increase the engine will lean out and die.

While a bad cylinder can stall an engine at idle, most can run at higher RPM a cylinder short.

Scanners- You need a "check light" for the cheaper scanners to work. But a good scanner bypasses the onboard computer and allows the Technician to directly question the same sensors through the cars' wiring. Such that the outside scanner can do much more than the onboard computer.

Someone will need to figure out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel pressure to the injectors when it dies.
Could be a relay such as the EEC relay or fuel pump relay, the ignition module or coil, or a list of other things.

How many miles do you have on it? The fuel pump is in the gas tank, I have a 97 explorer and around 75k miles the fuel pump went out. After talking with other Ford truck owners this was pretty common. Its not a cheap repair unless you are willing to drop the tank yourself.

I think that you need to be more specific when you say that you have changed everything... Because i'm sure that there is MUCH more that has to do with this problem then you may think.... Has the fuel pump fuel pump float pressure regulator and filter been changed out. Also has the crank sensor been changed out. What you the cam sensor?

U need to verify the fuel pressure during this time that is acts up.if the fuel pressure drops below 30 psi then u may have a faulty fuel pump.you can get a fuel pressure tester from advance auto,Install the tester on the test valve on the fuel rail.Your truck has two fuel pumps but the main supply pump is mounted on the frame rail underneath the drivers side floor pan.

you probably sucked all of the dirt in your tank into the filter. try changing your filter. turn key on and have some listen by the gas tank for a humming sound to test the fuel pump and see if it is working.

I would change the filter first, if that doesnt help check the fuel pressure. if it doesnt hold around 30psi fuel pump could be bad.

Hook up a fuel gauge so that you can read the pressure when this happens. If it drops too much then you have a pump or regulator problem

first of all make sure battery is fully charged auto zone will test batteries for free but if you can get it jumped and running while it is running take the positive side cable off the battery and if it dies then it is the alternator and also look at the condition of the drive belt but if you do all this and the truck does not start spray very little starter fluid in the throttle body if it starts ask yourself when was last time I changed the fuel filter and also have someone to be back by the gas tank to see if you can hear the pump and check out the fuel pump relay which is normally under the hood on the drivers side before changing the fuel pump

it's the fuel pump. make sure your fuel injectors are clean or else it will happen again
