I have provided the link to Honda's site (https://radio-navicode.honda.com/) for all of the information I listed here. On this site, you can retrieve the security code by entering the VIN number of the vehicle and the serial number of the device.

Where to find the serial number? The site also lists steps to find the serial number of both devices Radio and naviagtion that I have listed in this post as well. Once you have the device serial number, you can enter that information at this site which will try to verify your ownership based on the information Honda has for your vehicle or else you can ask your local honda dealer for the security code by providing serial numbers for Radio or Navigation system. The dealer will verify that you are the rightful owner of the vehicle before disclosing the code to you.

In my case, I have been taking my 2002 Accord to the same dealer for the last several years and they had my information in their system. They provided me the code over the phone after verifying some personal information at no charge!

1) Serial Number Retrieval Help for Radio:
There are several places to find your audio unit's serial number: The Unlock Code and the device unit's serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. The card is usually placed in the glove box at the time of delivery. Use the Unlock Code listed on this card. For certain models, the dealer may have placed a label with the device serial number on the glove box. For year 2001 and later models, you may obtain the serial number from the device display. This procedure is listed below and also detailed in the device’s manual. For models earlier than 2001, the serial number is located on the back of the device. This will require a trip to the dealer to obtain the number. Retrieve Serial Number from Display

  • All Other Models - 2002 and older
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads COdE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
  3. Turn OFF the device.
  4. Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.
  5. The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)
  6. And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example.)
  7. Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits
  • Retrieve Serial Number from Device Display
    2003 - 2007 Accord with Navigation System
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).
  2. Turn on the audio unit, and make sure you see COdE in the upper display. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
  3. Turn off the audio unit.
  4. Press and hold the top halves of the SEEK/SKIP and CH/DISC bars, and then press and release the PWR/VOL knob. This display toggles between two screens.
  5. The first screen displays a U and the first four digits of the serial number (for example, U2200).
  6. The second screen displays an L and the last four digits of the serial number (for example, L0055).
  7. Ignore the U and L, and write down all eight digits.
2) Serial Number Retrieval Help for Navigation System There are several places to find your navigation unit's serial number: The Unlock Code and the device unit's serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. The card is usually placed in the glove box at the time of delivery. Use the Unlock Code listed on this card. The navigation system serial number label is located on the control unit. This is where the removable DVD is stored. For information on where to locate your navigation system control unit, refer to the Navigation System manual supplied with your vehicle ("Changing the DVD") or consult your dealership. If the label is not viewable once the control unit is located, consult your dealership for assistance. Note: The serial number cannot be obtained from the screen unit.

The battery was replaced in a suzuki grand vitara 2002 after which the radio does not work

Most radios have a security code that must be entered into the radio before the battery is disconnected. In the event that the code was not entered or was not available, the security system will lock the radio so it won't work. It is an antitheft feature. If you have the owners manual, it should have a toll free number you can call to get assistance in aquiring a new code to unlock the radio. You can also call a dealership and they can assist you.

Can't use radio code

If your radio is showing ERR instead of asking for the code you need to take your battery cable off for a few minutes and let the radio reset itself.  After you attach the cables back, the radio will ask for the code and you will just put it back in with the numbers that you use for your preset radio stations.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Radio code

If you have tried a few times before NOT entering the right code or making error when entering code. This radio will lock you out, here is what you do disconnect battery cable for 60 seconds (positive cable) or disconnect radio fuse. Then re-enter code make sure that you are pressing firmly on number and make sure that you enter correctly.(POWER ON RADIO SHOULD BE IN ON POSITION WHEN DOING THIS) If this doesn't work then you will need to go to HOnda and fora fee they will be able to get code. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA.
