I have a 1995 ford escort with only 130 000 km the car is in pretty good shape except for the idle of the car , when you first start it it runs high at a fast idle and than goes low again when driving it seems to want to stall out unless you keep the foot on the peddle and hints on this problem
Hi , i have a 1995 Escort with 1.9 4 cyl engine , at cold start the engine revs ok but as it get warmer it start to idle rought and die , with a scantool the o2 sensor always reed lean at idle , after checking fuel pressure , air mass meter , EGR valve , and potential vacuum leak at intake and hoses , its the PCV valve that give me that problem , as i remove the pipe with the valve there was a whissle noise comming from it , when i block the valve at its tip the whissle noise stop the engine revs smooter and the o2 reads normal , i replace the PCV and its idling good .
1995 Ford Escort poor idle. Idles high when cold and dies when it warms up. Problem, easy to fix.****Replace PCV Valve and upper PCV Elbow that goes into the top of the engine. The rubber elbow will get soft over a period of time and will leak vacumn . Takes 2 minutes to replace Upper PVC soft rubber elbow. Cost about $8.75 at a Ford Dealer.
You need to adjust idle its supposed to idle high at startup but after warm its idle drops down to if memmory serves corrent 1000 to 1500 rpm
You cant adjust the idle in a fuel injected car. change you intake manifold, and change spark plugs, spark plug wires, and fuel filter. Will give you better mpg and should help with the idle problem
I had a same problem with mine Ford escort 1994. Solution for me was to clean IAC idle air control coz it sometimes got stuck.I used carb cleaner on IAC and it did the job. IAC is located on left side of mainfold. There should also be small like cilindar next to it its vacuum microfilter( not part of problem )
Could be a vacuum leak at top of your intake manifold
My 1995 escort had a roaming idle. SOLUTION: spray all the vac hoses (especially the joints) with WD40 while running. If the idle improves for a second or two you have found a leak. You should also inspect EVERY vac line for wear points where a wear point (rubbing) may have caused a hole/leak. There are two EGR system modules on the firewall. The module with the extreme curved vac hose has a tendency to burn at hole at the bend. Mine had the hole. ALSO: The short vac hose to the PCV valve may look OK but it is probably leaking. Replace that short section. STALLING AT IDLE: My escort then developed a low rpm stall. I believe it could be a clogged EGR valve. The last time I unbolted the valve there was crud and tar at the ports. I removed what I could (without bending the metal tube) but I now believe the valve and tube have to be removed in order to access and clean the ports thoroughly.
Check mounting bolts at the intake manifold or plenum for tightness. Make sure that all vacuum hoses are connected and in good shape. Use a stethoscope to help listen for leaks while the engine is running. Check for a plugged PCV. Check IAT and MAF sensor voltage, voltage value wear out around 125K. and give the ECM/PCM a wrong reading.
I have the same problem with the high idle. My car has 72K on it. Same make and model. Same year. It idles at 3000 rpm then after a bit of time drops to 1000 rpm. I had a vacuum leak but the car ran was fine when it idled. I it got fixed which led to the high idle problem, now I don't know what to do without taking it to the mechanics. Any thoughts?

The IAC valve is usually the problem with the 1.9 Escorts ,causing a very poor engine idle at a stop. It is located on the side of the throttle body .

I have the same problem, it has 100,000 miles on it and if you sit at a stop light or just in park it goes to real low idle and dies, unless you put your foot on the peddle,, some mechanic told me it was some sort of celinoid, the other said it was a gas filter,

my car likes to die when it idles, but i've already changed the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, and also the air filter. even though i've done all this it still dies on idle sometimes, help, please?
