There is a switch on the clutch pedal or assembly that wont allow the engine to crank if the pedal is not depressed. Look for that switch or connector, look on youtube for videos on it.
You may have an internal transmission problem or clutch issue. If you can shift the car into gear while running without using the clutch pedal, suspect a defective clutch
is the car a manual transmission or an automatic? if manual there is a switch on the clutch pedal that wont let engine turn over unless clutch is pushed to floor.automatic it is mounted on transmission at the linkage.for auto trans you can move shifter back an forth while trying to crank engine. if manual you can push clutch pedal to floor hard an try to crank.
if the battery is OK, but the starter still won't crank, there could be a number of possible reasons. Here are some of them: - The ignition switch could be at fault - it's a common problem. - The starter motor itself is common to fail. - Starter motor control wire could have bad connection. - Cars with an automatic transmission have a Neutral Safety Switch that allows the starter to be operated only when the transmission is in "Park" or "Neutral" position. When this switch isn't functioning properly, or for example, when the shifter is not fully engaged in "Park" or "Neutral" position, the starter also won't crank. - Similarly, cars with manual transmission have a switch installed at the clutch pedal that only allow the car to be started when the clutch pedal is depressed. The problem with this clutch pedal switch could also prevent the starter from operating - A problem with vehicle's security system or some other electronic control module (e.g, PCM, BCM) may also prevent the starter from operating.
do you mean it wont turn over until you push the clutch pedal in, then after several attempts it finally did turnover and run???? clutch switch may be going bad.
Getting into gear has been improved by putting in neutral with engine running to warm up fluid. The Fiero has very little room in the pedal area. I'm shifting a lot better with smaller shoes.
The problem with starting may well be related to the same issue. There is a neutral safety starting switch. If you're not pressing hard enough on the clutch - starter won't run. According to the Fierostore.com stock clutch pedals tend to bend. They sell a stronger replacement.
My Fiero has been starting just fine the last few days. The last time it didn't I was wearing boots.
I've almost always been able to get it to start using a booster battery, but Walmart's tester indicates that the battery and charging system are fine. It recommends tightening connections. I did this, but still had problems for a while.
