Remove negative battery cable. Remove heat shield from starter. Remove battery cable from starter lug and single wire connector to starter solenoid. Remove starter. Above starter is CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. Disconnect sensor connector right below ignition coil assemble from top of engine. Slide sensor connector out of U-shaped bracket. Loosen 10mm bolt securing sensor. Lubricate new sensor O-ring with vaseline and install. Reverse procedure to finish job. I just did the job on my 03 Tibby 2.7liter today. Note: Make sure you press the new sensor in by hand and be sure it is seated all the way before you tighten the 10mm bolt, otherwise the sensor mounting tab make distort and crack and the sensor may not be in all the way. Good luck!

97 chevy 5.7 crank sensor location

The CKP (Crankshaft Position) sensor is located in the front engine cover and is perpendicular to the crankshaft target wheel. The air gap between the sensor and the wheel is preset and not adjustable. The target wheel has three slots 60 degress apart and is keyed to the crankshaft. As the target wheel rotates, the slots passing by the sensor create a change in the magnetic field of the sensor which results in an induced voltage pulse. One revolution of the crankshaft results in three pulses (3x signal). Based on these pulses, the VCM is able to determine crankshaft position and engine speed. The VCM then activates the fuel injector and provides a spark to the Distributor. The relation between the crankshaft position sensor and the target wheel is crucial. The sensor must be exactly perpendicular to the target wheel with the correct air gap.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Hi!!

here are illustrations of the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor in 2.3L and 3.0L.

Note: In the bottom of the 2.3L drawing says Trottle Position (TP) Sensor, this is wrong, It should say CKP Sensor.

2.3L Engine

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located to the left of the crankshaft pulley.

Crankshaft sensor

2-0L-2.4L I-4 crankshaft sensor mounts to the engine block, behind the alternator, just above the oil filter. 2.5L V-6 crankshaft sensor mounts to transaxle just below the distributor.
