The maintenance light comes on to remind you that you are due for an oil change. Most if not all Toyotas will do this every 5,000 miles. When you are close to that mark it will come on for a couple of seconds and then go out. As you hit that mark it will stay on continuously. If the oil has been changed you can reset it by -
*Turn the key to the off position.
*Push and hold the odometer trip reset button while turning the key to the run position. Do not try to start the engine.
*The odometer will change to all dashes and then they will disapear one ant a time.
*The display will change to zeros and then show the odometer.
*let go of the trip reset button when the odometer reappears.
Sometimes the trip needs to be set on "A" before you turn the key off to start the process and sometimes it needs to be on "B". Before you start.
