Remove the front wheel and check the rotor on each side. It should be smooth and shiny on the whole contact surface. If you find a band that is dull and rough it means the brake pads are worn down to the metal and need replacing immediately. It may be difficult to see the rear side of the caliper because of the dust shield. You should then check the pad thicknes is not less than 2mm. This can be achieved by removing the 2 bolts that hold the caliper together. Slide the caliper off and replace the old pads with new ones. Remember to refit the pad spring(thin metal plate), the shims, which go between the pad and caliper and the pad retainers at the top and bottom of the pads. The caliper piston will also have to be pressed back into the caliper before reassembly.
Nine times out of ten it's your brakes, but usually you would get a warning before it got that bad. i would remove the wheel and check the pads and the rotor. it the rotor feels like a 1977 vinyl record, then i would change or have the rotors turned
