Well, yes they did borrow the system from Chrysler and the main problem was with the main controller unit where you adjust the temp and has the controls. They were known to separate at the unit allowing vacuum to leak and to cause this problem as well. Typically when it is running, you should be able to put your fingers at the rear of the unit and find the vacuum leak that way.

If pressing the brake pedal does not affect the sound, buy a pair of rear wheel bearings and pay a shop to install them for you. If the rear brakes have not been serviced in the past 10,000 miles then buy all that stuff, including slave cylinders if so equipped, and have it done as well as you will save on labor as the thing will be completely apart

Look at the sidewall of the tires that are on the car now. The tire and wheel size are printed on the sidewall, or take the car to an autoparts store and have them check for you. They will not charge for this service. Hope this helped and best wishes.
