Just bought my 1996 altima. The car is running very hot. I have replaced the radiator, water pump, coolant temp. sensor, and themostat. For some reason the thermostat does not appear to be opening. So I thought it might be a bad thermostat, and replaced it again with the same results. My question is what would cause it not to open, or why would the car still run hot after I replaced almost everything that has to do with cooling? It is not showing any signs of it being the head gasket either.

SOURCE: 92'Sentra GA16 suspect cooling sytem failure

you my friend have a blown headgasket, and heres why #1 you have white smoke at start up(this is an indicator of water in the fuel and hence through the exaust when it mixes in the cylinder#2 it goes away after the warm up(this generally happens because the cylinder is so much hot than the boil point of the coolant)very little smoke would be noticed#3 oil on a plug(if they were all of the plugs i would say you had bad valve seals or oil rings on pistons) seeing that it's only one pretty much tells me that is where the gasket is leaking.#4 poor idle(car will idle rough and hesitate because the computer is trying to compensate for the water air fuel mixture. hope this helps please rate this

sounds like where the water pump meets the engine has warped or the gasket has been blown. Since the water pump has to come out anyway to fix it then i would suggest replacing the pump. It is 30 to 40 more.

SOURCE: 1996 nissan altima running hot changed thermostat

check the operation of the fans, since the radiator was recently replaced, it is posible they may not be plugged in correctly or operating like they should, if they look good, look into the water pump, with the work that u already did the only this left to look at after the water pump is the intake or head gasket, any water in oil or vice versa? look into that if all else fails....

What are some reasons that my 07 nissan altima could be running hot

Faulty thermostat is the most likely one.
Failed Radiator Fan / Sensor (equally likely)
Low coolant level (in radiator as opposed to reservoir)

Faulty water pump. (less likely)

Clogged radiator. (less likely)

Very weak mixture. (even less likely)

While there are a variety of reasons your Nissan Altima is overheating, the most common 3 are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat.

Temperature gauge cold then back to normal

You have to make sure the thermostat is working properly and is the correct one. Idle the vehicle for about 20 minutes and then feel the upper radiator hose. It should be hot to the touch. Drive the vehicle and when the temp gauge falls to 'cold' stop and feel it again. If it is much cooler to the touch than before the thermostat is defective or wrong.

Change the sensor. Check the electric cooling fans and Relays. Some fans have 2 speeds and may not kick into high speed.
The radiator operates more or less closely to the block temperature. A Laser thermometer would tell you what the operating temperature is.

Have you checked out the water pump? Most of the time, you can feel movement in the /head shaft area before it fails. Water pumps usually go slowly, pumping less and less water (making the engine run hotter). The also get noisy when they start to fail.

No heat ..help installed new heater switch, replaced water pump..replaced coolants, and thermostat......................what else could it be? Nissan 2003 GXE Sentra 1.8 L Engine/...

you could have an air pocket in the cooling system that has to be burped. With a cold engine, park uphill and leave the radiator cap loose. Fill radiator and coolant reservoir. Start engine with cap loose and run at 1500 rpm until temp gauge reads normal. Feel if top radiator return hose from engine to radiator is hot. If yes, coolant is flowing and thermostat is open. If cold, thermostat is not staying closed until engine is hot.

report results.

Radiator fan running after engine turned off on 98 nissan altima

You need to diagnose the problem. The fan is doing what it is being told to do by the computer. You stated the temp gage on the dash is in the HOT position. Either the engine is very hot and the fan needs to run to remove heat even after it is shut off or the gage, coolant sensor or temp sender is defective. Try running it temporarly without a thermostat and see what happens, you may have bought a defective thermostat.

If you're not losing coolant, it's much more likely to be the water pump. Most heater cores leak when they go so although it's not impossible, I'd be very surprised if the heater core was even partly to blame for your overheating problem.

1996 nissan altima keeps running hot new thermastate

There are a few things that can cause your car to run hot. Not enought antifreeze is one. It could also be your cooling fan is not working, a colgged heater core, colgged radiator, thermostat is stuck closed, leaky water pump, or coolant temp sending unit. Hope this helps.
