Refit carrier into diff housing. Best advice --have an accredited diff shop do the job for trouble free operation.

How to replace backing plates on rear of 2001 silverado

You will have to pull the axles to remove the backing plates.Loosen the differential cover until most of the fluid drains, remove the cover.Rotate the diff until you can get at the small bolt that retains the spider gear pin.Remove the pin, push the axles in,remove the C-clips.You can now slide the axles out.(You might as well replace the axle seals while you're at it).If you clean the cover and diff housing thoroughly, you can put a small bead of silicone gasket maker to reinstall it.

Removing rear axle on jeep grand cherokee

Jack car up, put safety jack-stands under both wheels.Remove wheels, remove two bolts in inside of caliper.Lift caliper, and put aside. Remove pan on back of differential. Clean with brake-kleen. You will see bolt holding the pin that goes through the gears. You will need a 5/16 deep socket or 5/16 boxend wrench to remove the bolt. Once the bolt is removed you should be able to push the pin out by rotating the ring,or large gear half way. once the pin is out,do not rotate it farther. Now push the axle in toward the center of car,and a horseshoe clip will fall out into the differential. You will be able to slide the axle out. To reinstall, push the axle back in as far as possible, install the horseshoe clip back into groove on the end of the axle, and push it back till it stops. Re-install pin and bolt, and silicone a bead on the lid and reinstall bolts. Fill it up with diff, oil until it runs out of filler hole, if you have a limited-slip diff, you'll need to add a fish-oil additive be fore filling.Good Luck

How do i change out my rear end

remove wheels calipers and rotors, remove rear cover and drain oil from diff, remove abs sensors if it has abs, remove axle shafts, this is done by removing the 8mm bolt holding the pin, slide pin out push axle in to remove c clip holding axle then slide out, do the same to other side, note dont spin diff or gears will fall out, dissconect driveshaft, next remove axle vent and unbolt brake hose from axle, leaving brake lines connected unclip them from axle housing, next support diff with jack, dissconect lower shock bolts and slide shocks to side, remove upper control arm bolts from diff, slowly lower diff to release spring tension now remove springs and remove lower arm bolts. lower diff and take out. reverse to install. hope this helps.

How do u take out the pin on rear differential 2 release axels 2 replace seals

remove the rear rim and tires with the car on jack stands. remove rear diff cover. have a drain pan under it. you need to spin the diff. the pin can slide all the way though. one side is held in by a bolt. un bolt it. move diff so the pin will slide down and out. you then can push each axle in and remove the clips. then pull the axles out and replce the seals. not an easy or clean job.

Rear wheel seal leaking

Remember SAFETY FIRST. Jack up the right rear wheel, support the axle with a jack stand, remove the wheel, the brake drum, the banjo cover or differential cover. Allow the gear oil to drain out into you drain pan, carefully and slowly spin the ring gear (watch out not to pinch your fingers) look for a small bolt that is restraining the king pin, remove the bolt and then carefully slide the pin out !(don't spin the axles or ring gear while the pin is out) if you do the bushings and spider gers will move out of their places. After the pin is out then go over to the exposed axle and push it in until it stops. Go back over to the pumpkin and look inside, for a "U" shaped washer it will be on the end of the axle. Remove it from the axle. Now you can remove the axle and replace the wheel seal. Either rent a seal installing tool or carefully use a block of wood and evenly install the seal. If you kink or damage the new seal remove it and try it again. When you put everything back together put a little thread lock on the bolt for the king pin. dont over tighten it, could snap it. Let me know if I can help any more.

Rear end

Did you pull the pin at differential just to be sure? If it's non-"C" clips, you'll need a slidehammer attached to hub, over studs & use wheel nuts to hold it on there. Get er done !
