REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 4, 5 and 6

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support it safely on jackstands.
  3. Disconnect all cables and wires at the starter solenoid on the starter motor.
  4. Remove the starter mounting bolts and lower the starter from the engine.

To install:

  1. Position the new starter assembly to the engine block and start the mounting bolts in by hand.
  2. Snug all bolts while holding the starter squarely against its mounting surface and fully inserted into the pilot hole. Tighten the mounting bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (21-27 Nm).
  3. Reconnect the starter cables and wires to the starter motor. Tighten the screw and washer assemblies to 70-130 inch lbs. (8-15 Nm).
  4. Lower the vehicle, then connect the negative battery cable.
When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles (16 km) or more for the PCM to relearn the strategy.

Starter problems for 88 ford aerostar van 7 passenger. how do i know its the starter or bad connection?

Test your battery and starter by doing a voltage drop test. Put one test lead of your meter on the neg side of your battery, one on the positive. Check voltage. Make sure that you are actually connecting to the battery itself and not the terminal ends. Should read 12.8-13.2. Keeping the neg in the same location move the pos to the terminal end, engage starter, meter should read above 10 volts. Continue testing down the pos wire to the starter, checking voltage, until you find less than 10 volts. If the voltage is good at starter, have someone turn key to the start position, tap starter with a hammer. if starter engages , replace starter.

1993 ford aerostar replaced the starter the battery and starter solenoid clicks once when key is turned what else can it be?

Try looking at the electric switch unit which is attached to the key switch cylinder via a metal rod. this part sometimes shorts out. it is located under the dash on the top of the stearing wheel shaft. 1 bolt and 2 small screws hold it on the column shaft. Hope this helps
