yes please remove these ,.the torque converter should be removed with transmission. you could cause damage to transmission if you dont remove the bolts . also support transmission with trans jack to make sure it doesn't fall out on you

Yes and how do you have it supported right now. if you are trying to completly remove the transmission you need to turn the engine to get all the torque converter unbolted from the engine. if you remove the inspection cover you will see the flex plate and eventually all the bolts.

Cant get the oil pan off a 302

You have to jack the engine up after removing the motor mount bolts on each side. Then once you have the engine jacked up a few inches, slide a piece of wood (2x4) in between the upper and lower parts of the motor mounts on each side. This will keep the engine elevated enough for you to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket. Then, just put all the bolts back in in the proper torque sequence, torque them all to spec, remove the wooden blocks from the motor mounts, slowly lower the engine back down and put the motor mount bolts back in.

1984 chevy 1/2 ton pick-up either 350 or 400 trans dont know which reverse gear works but no 1,2,3 seems to try to move but wont

Sounds like you need a new transmission. It can only be one of two things: Transmission is old and needs replaced or the torque converter is bad. But if your going to replace the torque converter you might as well make sure you have a good transmission because you have to drop the transmission to get to the torque converter. No point in droping the transmission and replacing the torque converter to find out you need to drop it again because the transmission is bad. You should be able to drop the transmission is a few hours. You only have 3 bolts on the fly wheel and one bolt for the transmission mount and about 6 bolts connected to the engine. Then you have your fluid lines speedometer cable and drive shaft. And your dip stick.
