Hi there, recently I bought used cd/casette/radio taken out from the same 98 deville. Once installed and uncoded by the Cadillac service, the unit does everything except it won't make any sound. It's seem like there must be a bit different wiring diagram between the original unit and the one I installed. The plug on the back of the new unit is the same like at the other one so I did not have to use any converter. I hope the unit I bought (eBay) is OK... Does anybody have an idea what might be a reason of having no sound whatsoever? the door chime doesn't work either. It did with the old unit of course.
Since the replacement is a different one from the one you are replacing, the car wiring harness is probably different from the one needed for the new radio. This is a really important difference if the new one is part of a Bose system and that is not the option installed in your car. The best way to check is for you to identify the option codes for each radio and go to alldatadiy.com and compare the wiring diagrams.

The "check engine" light will "light" when there is a malfunction in the engine management system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. We recommend buying your own scanner and doing it yourself. With a pocket scanner you can check for fault codes to find out why the light came on in the first place. You can clear your cars trouble codes after you replace the malfunctioning sensors.

try taking off your fuse panel cover, there should be a reset button in there.

looked it up online and looks like it's on the front of the water pump in a thing called the coolant inlet housing. one end of it looks something like the letter y and the other end, where the thermostat is round. hope that helps
