1999 Honda CRV A/C

The A/C compressor in my 1999 Honda CRV is cutting on and off when the A/C button is on. The compressor is fine when the car is running and the idle is up but when stopped at a traffic light you have to press the A/C button off because the compressor starts cutting on and off and the car idles too low. I've read several message boards with similar problems. At this point I am not running the air in fear that I will have metal fragments through the entire system. Do you think the compressor needs to be replaced or the clutch? I know the CRV's seem to have A/C problems but as far as I could tell it did not include the 1999 model.
Thanks!!!!

The compressor is supposed to cycle on and off. The idle problem may not be the compressor but the solenoid that controls the idle when the compressor is engaged. A bad clutch would present in different ways, i.e. metallic scraping noise. I doubt at this point you are damaging the system by running the a/c.

I have this same problem. Took it to the shop. They said it's not the A/C but the distributor assembly needs to be replaced. It is causing the cylinders to mis-fire and thus the low idle.

If you check the American boards you will find that the compressor has been a problem in the 99 model.

I think this is a problem with the relay

2002 Honda CRV LX. What size belt do I need im putting an A/C compressor bypass pulley on my 2002 honda crv lx and don't know what belt I need to use help me please.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Honda CRV.

The whole idea of using a Bypass Pulley is that it mimics the A/C compressor. You use the same belt. You can use the one that came off it, although you may as well put a new one on at the same time.

Honda crv 2007 compressor clutch does not engaging when temperature is high. It will engage in the morning when temperature is low. Check the relay and works fine.

Most common cause is overcharged system. Refrigerant heats and expands at higher temps and high pressure switch shuts off compressor. See this post on how to diagnose http://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/ac-compressor-clutch-not-engaging/
