I'm guessing fuel pump is going. Check for 40 PSI pressure with fuel pressure gauge. Check in engine comaprtment.
Section 10-01: Fuel Tank, Filters, Lines and Electric Fuel Pump
1995 Thunderbird, Cougar Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
Fuel Pump, Electric
The electric fuel pump:
The current path depends on operating conditions.
Good Evening, In the grand scheme of things it could be a lot of different things, however the first thing I would say is try unplugging the mass air flow sensor there by the air filter and see if it picks up and runs better. It is possible to take it out and try cleaning with some brakekleen to knock the dust and carbon off. See if that helps improve let me know and we can go from there.
try that and it started to die out
Last one we had on the lot it was just like that same exact thing sputtered, ran like hell would hardly accelerate. The mass air flow trick works more on the gms and imports and now and thenn on the fords there is a way to go through and backprobe the wires and test it, I ended up going to the local salvage yard and trying one from there and made it pick up and run like a champ. So I am still not ruling that out. I'm guessing fuel pressure is ok since you start it up probably right away which means it gets enough pressure to start. When is the last time you had a tune up? Try pulling the spark plug wires away from their electrodes a little and try that I'm also guessing you do not have a miss if not you would say so. They just have to be sitting on top of their electrodes not pushed all the way down see if that helps. But like I said I'm still not convinced it's not that MAF. And a few questions, how long has it been doing this and do you have a check engine light on?
