It looks like the fuel mixture is too thin. A good mechanic will be able to give you a better idea as to what's causing it.
Codes are....
P0457 = Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (fuel cap loose/off).
P0174 = System too lean, bank 2.
P0171 = System too lean, bank 1.
P1151 = Lack Of HO2S21 Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean.

P0171 - System to Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 - System to Lean (Bank 2) Lack of fuel or too much air - unmetered air after the mass air flow sensor ! vacuumn leak . Not enough fuel - low fuel pressure , clogged injectors .
P0171 - System to Lean (Bank 1) The Adaptive Fuel Strategy continuously monitors fuel delivery hardware. The test fails when the adaptive fuel tables reach a rich calibrated limit. Refer to Section 1 , Powertrain Control Software, Fuel Trim for more information. Air Measurement System

  • MAF sensor (contaminated, damaged, malfunctioning, etc.)
Fuel System
  • Fuel pressure regulator (leaking, malfunctioning, etc.).
  • Fuel filter plugged, dirty.
  • Fuel pump (weak, check valve leaking, etc.).
  • Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors.
  • Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
  • EVAP canister purge valve leaking (when canister is "clean").
  • Fuel supply line restricted.
  • Fuel rail pressure sensor (incorrect reading).
Air Induction System
  • Air leaks after the MAF.
  • Vacuum Leaks.
  • PCV system (leak, valve stuck open, etc.)
  • Improperly seated engine oil dipstick.
Exhaust System
  • Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2Ss (exhaust manifold gasket, mating gaskets, etc.)..
EGR System
  • EGR valve tube/gasket leak
  • EVR solenoid vacuum leak
Secondary Air Injection
  • Damaged/malfunctioning secondary air injection system (mechanically stuck valve).
View Freeze Frame Data to determine operating conditions when DTC was set. Observe LONGFT1 and 2 PID(s). Refer to Section 2 , Adaptive Fuel DTCs Diagnostic Techniques for more information.
P0457 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Filler Cap Loose/Off) A fuel tank pressure change less than a minus (-) 7 inches of H 2 0 in 30 seconds has occurred after refueling; or there is excessive purge (fuel vapor) flow greater than 0.06 pounds per minute.
  • Fuel filler cap not installed on refueling (storing continuous memory DTC) and "Check Fuel Cap" light may also be illuminated.
  • Fuel filler cap missing, loose or cross-threaded.
Check for missing fuel filler cap or integrity of the cap. If OK, clear continuous memory DTCs and re-initiate EVAP Emission Running Loss Monitor Drive Cycle.
Stuck open evap purge valve , maybe. Take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop an have the evap system smoke tested .

P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean A HEGO sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time. See Possible Causes for DTC P1130

SOURCE: I have a 98 ford windstar with check engine light

These are all related:
P1537 and P1538 are BOTH:
Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open
P0171 is Lean Bank #1
P0174 is Lean Bank #2.
On the front of the Intake Manifold there are Plastic Clips. The Clips are currently broken and need to be replaced. Because these are broke the Computer is registering too much Air or not enough Fuel = Lean.
You should be able to purchase these at any auto parts store (call ahead for availablility).
After you replace these, all the Codes should disappear.

SOURCE: cODE PO457

this is an evap code. and most of the time it's a faulty gas cap or the gas cap is not tight enough try putting some vasoline on the gas caps rubber seal and tighten it at least 3 clicks. if the light does not go out. take it to a repair shop that can do a smoke test to find the evap leak

SOURCE: My 2000 Ford Ranger keeps showing codes PO 171 and

These codes mean that the oxygen sensor is reading too "Lean" on both the left and right cylinder banks and the engine control system can't compensate any further to solve the problem. You may have a dirty or failing Mass Airflow Sensor that is miscalcuating the amount of airflow the engine is taking in which in turn can cause both of these codes to set. If the sensor is reporting less air than the engine is actually taking in then the engine computer will add only the amount of fuel it should based on what it was told by the sensor which will cause both cylinder banks to run "lean". There could be something else going on such as having two bad oxygen sensors [very rare] but I do see these two codes together quite often and usually its the sensor that is causing it. Hope this helps a bit!

My ford windstar 2003 hesitates during cold weather or wet conditions. But good during idle. Some time shows blinking engine light.

The flashing and rough running is to to a misfire or misfires cause by arcing due to moisture on ignition components. Eventually these misfires can lead to other problems such as damage catalytic converter. Start by identifying which cylinder(s) is/are misfiring. The arching can be reproduced with a spray bottle filled with soapy water. Spray the ignition components (wires, coils, distributor cap...)and look for the vehicle to idle rough. Replace any faulty component.

Started running bad when I turned on the heater

misfire can be caused by a few things. weak spark, low fuel pressure, to much fuel, vaccum leak. a simple check on this engine is to remove vaccum line from fuel pressure regulator, on fuel rail, driver side of engine. if you crank engine, and fuel leaks out vaccum port on regulator, its ruptured and causing rich fuel mixture. try that and let me know.

I have 2003 ford focus 2.0 SOHC SPI with a bad missfire

Yup, been there, done that. Found it was a bad injector. Replaced that one injector the test showed and runs great now. Check engine light should be on though because of this problem. The test will show you which cylinder is misfiring and that is the injector you change. My test showed #5 cylinder. The last # in the code read.

You state you changed plugs and wires - Do distributor cap & rotor? If not you should then set timing. That should cure hesitation (might change fuel filter also and run good fuel system cleaner through it)
Prob 2 - sounds like a u-joint or possible brake pad/rotor issue. Does the squeal only happen in mornings when cold? Sometimes after sitting overnight, rotors get condensation and when backing out they'll squeal/grind. Somethings to look at...

Motor running rough. Missing. What are some common problems with the motor?

You could have a faulty fuel injector, a bad spark plug or wire or even a bad coil. The 3.1 liters are notorious for having bad fuel injectors If there is a check engine light then you can get the code and find out which cylinder is misfiring then go from there. Or you could get the vehicle to misfire then pull of each individual injector wire to see which cylinder is misfiring, you will know which one is misfiring because when you disconnect the wire you will not feel any change at all. If you unplug one of the injectors to a cylinder that is not misfiring it will misfire much more.
