The first thing you need to do is to have the abs computer scanned for codes, the abs may be related to the 4wd problem, by scanning the codes this will give you an idea of the problem, for example they scan it and it reads p1542 rt frt sensor out of spec, this would mean theres a problem with the right front speed sensor, when ever the computer sees a problem it stores a code and turns on the light for whatr ever system fails, hope this helps.

What does it mean when dash shows 4x4?

If the 4wd light is blinking there is something wrong preventing the computer from using 4wd. check to see if there might be an abs code as well. we had a bad wheel bearing which also affected the wheel speed sensor that the suv needs to operate the 4wd/awd/abs correctly

1992 Pajero 4wd system attempts to engage randomly, 4wd indicator lights blink

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS, TPMS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Anti-lock brake system. TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module. TPMS Tire Pressure Monitor System

The 4wd light in my 2005 escape is bllinking

Hi there:
The 4WD module gets info from the ABS module, so when one has a fault, it affects the other. First I suggest inspect the front ABS sensor indicator rings an the axles and scanned the ABS module to know if some fault code is there. They are known for breaking, and possible damage could occur to front abs sensor. Repair the sensor issue and both lamps should go out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

4wd light keeps blinking on dash of my 2005 triton ute It's not in 4wd and when I put it in 4wd the light stays on steady

It is just a sensor. It will cause no damage to your car. It might annoy the heck out of you though.
