Hello there,
I'm having two problems with my beloved MX-3 1994.
1. The radiator fans are not working anymore. I know that they are in working condition because I have tested them bu connectign them directly to the battery.
2. The horn is not working either. It was working couple of weeks ago. I'd like to have it working again.
It seems that both problems are related, however I'm 100% sure.
Could you please give me some advise on how to fix these problems.
Very much appreciated
Joe
Hi,
Have you tried checking the fuses for the horn and fan? Normally, the main fuses would be in the fuse box/bank in the engine bay (under the hood) often near the battery. Additional fuse box may be found inside the car sometimes in the driver's side kick panel (footwell), under the dash or under the glove box.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
Trouble Code: P1491
You PCM does not sense current to radiator fan when it turns it on. Is the fan coming on or not? Usually not when you have this code. Problem can be with the fuse, relay, wiring or fan itself. First check the fuse. If good, next try swapping the relay with another one in the engine compartment relay box, such as the horn relay.
Let the car warm up and see if the fan will come on. If yes, get a new relay. If not, either use a test light to see if there is voltage at the fan connector when the engine is on and hot, or else test the fan motor by hotwiring it to the battery. If none of this works, please get back to me for how to troubleshoot the wiring.
Radiator Fan Control Relay Circuit Malfunction
Possible Causes:
Radiator fan control relay circuit is open or shorted to ground
Radiator fan control relay circuit is open (test power to IGN)
Radiator fan control relay is damaged or has failed
PCM has failed

Thank you very much Benimur! I really appreciate your time.
I forgot to mention that part. Yes, I did check all the fuses and all of them are in working condition. I tested each one of them.
The fuse box inside the car does not have a fuse for neither the horn nor the radiator fans.
I also checked the fuse box that is next to the battery, same thing. All of them are fine.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks again
