Why does my ac in my car smell like gas?

Two potential failures come to mind for this issue; a dirty cabin filter or a fuel system leak. Cabin filters catch debris that is suspended in the air before it comes out of the vents. These contaminants build up on the surface of the filter and can produce a foul odor and reduce airflow. If this is the case, the cabin filter simply needs to be replaced in order to resolve the problem. A fuel system leak is another possibility but is a much more serious issue. Fuel that escapes the system will evaporate into the air which can then be drawn into the A/C system via the fresh air intake (located beneath the cowl area, close the the windshield wipers). Although this would cause a foul odor in the cabin, the bigger problem is that flammable liquid is close to a heat source (exhaust) under the hood which is a recipe for disaster. Because this is a potential safety issue, I'd recommend having a trained mechanic inspect for a fuel leak and repair as necessary. Is there a cabin air filter in a 1999 Toyota Sienna?

Your vehicle does not have a cabin air filter (also known as a pollen or AC filter). Vehicles without cabin air filters typically have a plastic mesh that prevents leaves and other foreign objects from entering the HVAC system. This mesh is part of the vehicle and does not need to be changed.

Where is the cabin air filter location on a 1994 mercury capri

1994 Mercury Capri ac does not have a cabin air filter. Weak air flow and bad smell could be debris in the fresh air/ac inputs. Check under the hood for debris where the air enters, the area under the wiper, and behind the vents inside, they get clogged if you park under a shedding tree...Chris

2001 altima . does this car have a air filter for the A/C system?

No, not really. What I mean it is not really directed for the AC, HOWEVER, what it is is a cabin air filter, which of course helps with the ac, heat and vent flow. Which indirectly will allow your ac to flow better and take away some of this wet moldy smells cause from moisture.

This type of filter is normally removable from somewhere in the glove compartment area. It sits in between the fan blower and the cooling evaporator. It provides cleaner internal air and also keeps the evaporator from clogging up which would affect cooling.

However, in that year supposly there is no cabin air filter, but The Haynes manual, although covering 1993 to 2004, says it's in the blower assembly and NAPA is willing to sell a part alleged to be a cabin air filter for a 2001 Altima. Now, i do know there is after market adaption cabin filter that a person can put on, however, in less you had a bad problem it would not be most likely worth the cost and trouble. I hope this helps some. Thanks Mike

The AC system may need charged, if you have a cabin filter it may be clogged to the point you dont feel the cold air. Just replace the cabin filter if it is clogged.

AC repair...

I don't see a dirty cabin air filter causing your AC to fail - the cabin filter isn't connected to the AC system - it's in the vent feed from the outside, where air enters the car to be cooled. Having it filthy would only cut down a bit on the volume of air coming into the car, not on how well the AC system cools it. If the blower fan had a problem, I could see it possibly causing a failure, but I've never heard of a blower fan resistor - maybe a fan speed switch failing could cause it (that's known to happen with Audi cars), but Saab is somewhat different in their approach to car design, so I suppose it's possible. If nothing else, have them pull the service manual and show them the "blower fan resistor".

First off though, since you have your car back, I'd take it somewhere else, preferably an independent shop that specializes in European cars, and have them diagnose it. If they come up with something drastically different, I'd contact this place that you've been dealing with and let them know what has been found, and offer them a chance to make it right by you. Let them know that you may pursue legal action otherwise, as it's been apparent that they're blowing you off and don't really know what they're doing.

Did you get a return call yet? What did they say?
