Fuse blows causing signal lights to stop working and car loses power

Short circuit most likely in rear light wiring

Possibly an internal failure of the reverse switch. The blown fuse is for both the reverse and the turn signal lights. The fix is replacement of the reverse switch.

Car fuses blow for a variety of reasons, but the most frequent causes are shorts in the electrical system and wear and tear on the fuse.

Based on the info you presented, it sounds like you may have a "short" in the wiring circuitry...A short circuit is simply a low resistance connection between the conductor supplying electrical power to the circuit. This results in excessive current flow in the power source through the 'short,' and may even cause the power source to be destroyed. If a fuse is in the supply circuit, it will do its job and blow out, opening the circuit and stopping the current flow. You'll need to trace the wiring to find the fault; there are plenty of youtube videos on "how to" trace faulty circuitry and how to use a multi-meter. Besides the headlights, does that fuse control any other accessory? Did anyone recently add an accessory to the car by running the power supply wire to that accessory through the same fuse that controls the head lights. You may want to check the resistance value of each of the headlight assemblies individually- one of them probably met its end-of-life usage and needs to be replaced. easiest thing to check is your fuses. The signal light system may have a short in it and it may have caused some of your fuses to blow.

first thing i guess to understand what is going on here ,is a little back to basics on how turnsignals work , first item you have is power fuse then it's off to flasher module than it goes to the turnsignal switch on colum ,of course anywhere on it way to there the power could got to ground and cause the fuse to trip, now the power depending on Left or right selection , is directed to lights on both front and back of truck,thankfully rangers don't have em on the side) now any place in this pathway the wire could go to ground and blow the fuse, now to troubleshoot and narrow down the area that fault is located , (1) replace fuse with correct size and ck for proper fit in fusebox and start and operate truck for a few minutes DO not use turnsignals, ck fuse is it still good if so go to step 2 if not stop and ck wire conditions in steering colum and switch(2) start truck and try right hand turn signal only verify lights working ,Ok yes/no if not replace fuse and try left side same way, Ok yes /no if right or left side only blows fuses take ALL bulbS OUT of lights and try again , if fuse still blows then look for wire fault on that side of truck if fuse is still good then look carefull at light bulb sockets for rust and powered corrosion (ill bet an 87 has some ) you may need to replace bulb sockets , they do sell em in autoparts stores .

If you keep blowing the brake fuse than you have a short in the system. Unplug the brake switch. Install a new fuse. If it did not blow than the problem is after the brake switch. Next unplug the turn signal switch, then plug the stop light switch back in and press the brake pedal. Did the fuse blow. If not than the wiring is good in between the two switches. With the turn signal switch disconnected use a jumper wire in between the light green wire (power from the brake switch) and the orange with light blue wire (power to the right brake lamp). If the fuse blows than there is a short in the right side brake circuit between the plug in and the rear socket assembly. If the fuse does not blow than jump from the light green wire to the Light green with orange wire (power to the left brake lamp). If the fuse blows than the problem is in the left hand brake wiring circuit.

I looked at the wiring diagrams and those two circuits should be on two different fuses.
The shift lock solenoid is powered by the 10amp turn signal fuse and the 15amp stop light fuse. If the fuse blows when you put it in park, I would say the shift lock solenoid is the problem and the stop light fuse is the one that is blowing.
The heater fan and relay are powered by a 60amp fuse and a 15amp fuse but not the stop light fuse.
Its possible there is a short some where that has connected these two circuits.
You could disconnect the shift lock solenoid to see if the fuse still blows.

Fuse under the right passenger dash. Fifth up on the right (blue 15 amp). It is called BCK/UP/STOP. All the same symptoms short in wiring harness for the trailer package caused the windows not to function, the right rear turn signal had no power, and the key was stuck in the ignition.

make sure all of your external lights are good. no lenses are cracked alowing water to get in. make sure no wires and rubbing to the lights. should be an easy fix. usally a bad/sorted bulb will do this.

One of the tail light bulbs can be shorted internally.  Replace the tail light bulbs first.  Try this cheap fix first.
