yes you have to drop the tank. you will also need a fuel line tool to unhook the fuel lines. before you drop the tank see if tou can reach and wiggle the electrical connection on the top of the tank. these pumps have a pigtail issue. please rate

There is a module in the ignition cap that is known to go bad. If it is this part, your truck will almost turn over, but not quite. I would check there first. Once you get it out, one of you local parts stores can test it.

1st try and search for a vaccum leak, due to the fact that these vehicles have had some bad problems with the length of wires and hoses, if there is a vaccum leak in the vehicle somewhere that will trigger other malfunctions in your vehicle. Using a can of starting fluid or Brake cleaner spray lightly spray around our engine til you hear the motor rev-up and the spot you have sprayed will determine where your vaccum leak will be. And then check under your distributor cap for any moisture be sure to take a rag and wipe and residue off. Also check the firing order on your distributor.

Im not sure i understand what you are asking . You say that the vehicle is out of time correct .However on this engine the timimg can not be adjusted at the distirutor shaft like many older engines . The VCM controls this function on the vehicle along with the knock sensor for the correct spark advance under differant driveing condutions . Are you getting any engine codes or is the MIL check engine light on if so and this must be happening if the timing is wrong and the plug wires are hooked up correctly and are not shorting and your sure there not the problem or you don't have a crack in the distirtubor cap check these first . If that checks OK and your sure its not causeing the problem then get the codes read any parts store will do this at no charge . The three things that could cause this are knock sensor crank shaft pisition sensor cam shaft pisition sensor or in rare instantices a worn gear at the base of the distirubtor shaft in witch case you would need to replace the shaft witch is done be removeing the cap and the bolt at the seal to the intake manifold and the hold down for the shaft witch will come off when the bolt is removed then just lift the shaft out after unpluging the connectors . The timing chain is another possibalty but not likely its a dupex chain not a rubber belt with no tensioner system and is not likely to jump a tooth The knock sensor is located near the dist shaft on the right side rear of the engine and the crankshaft sensor is located on the botton of the engine in front of the oil pan and just behind the hormonic balances thats the lower pulley on the engine
