Release the handbrake adjuster so that the handbrake paws on the calipers are against their stops, the piston can then be screwed back into the caliper together with gentle pressure but don't force it back in. there is a special tool for doing this but you can inprovise using 'hook nose' pliers or a hand vice (mole grips) but you may find this difficult as sometimes the pistons can be quite tight. when you have changed the pads on both sides (use copper grease-thin film on the back of the pad) pump the brake pedal 10-20 times and then adjust the handbrake cable

Yes you are right about the park brake being connected to brake caliper, but back in it off may not be necessary, if it does need to be backed off do the following to access the adjustment nut, also the rear brake pads are only about 1/2 the thickness of the fronts so make sure you really do need pads. here is the procedure to adjust the brake tension.
The adjuster nut is connected to components of the parking brake lever. You will need to remove the plastic cover inside the vehicle to access the adjustment,looking down you will see the cables coming to each side of the equalizer on the base of the park brake cable. the adjuster nut is in between the cables on the equalizer. The proper stroke (or height) for the lever of your vehicle is 6 brake handle ratchet clicks (of course you will loosen the nut here and readjust after job on brakes is done) To readjust for proper tension tighten the nut and then check the stroke, multiple adjustments may need to be made to get desired 6 clicks before brake holds correctly.

I read this same exact answer word for word free on-line on a hyundai forum. you charged me $6.00 and didn't even answer my original question. My question is, how do you access the adjuster for the handbrake on my 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT?
you are absolutely correct, I found this out on my own while waiting after the first useless suggestion was made. I will honor my commitment of $6.00 to you, but I will probably never use fixya again or suggest it to my friends. I really didn't like the way this outfit offers you a service, then trys to get more money out of you with the promise of a quicker response and also after you have paid what you feel like you want to spend you find yourself on a page that if you are not careful you have signed yourself up with a $9.95 fee per month. Really doesn't seem to be an honorable company.
nothing confusing about it. I simply stated that while I was waiting for the real answer to my question I started taking things apart and discovered it on my own. What is not honorable is the way Fixya trys to scam more money out of you with the promise of earlier delivery
