My child away at college, has a Rav4, 2008 with a warning light on that looks like "tire tread?" Just had the oil changed 2 weeks ago, so shouldn't have anything to do with that. Sound familiar? I told 'em to look at the owners manual under warning lights, but hasn't gotten back with me yet. Any ideas?

1. What brand and model of tire was fitted?

2. Please describe the wear pattern on the front tires in more detail. For example is the excessive tread wear.....
A. Right across the face of the tread on each tire or
B. On the outside edges of the tread on each tire or
C. on the inside edges of the tread on each tire or
D. on both sides of the tread but not on the center section of the tread on both tires.

B is normally caused by incorrect toe setting - toe in
C is also normally caused by incorrect toe setting - toe out
D is normally caused by tire pressure set way too low.

Faulty steering and suspension components can also cause abnormal tire wear for any component that affects the wheel alignment settings.

If you can provide a better description of the tire wear on each front tire you will get a better answer.

The A service and B service is an oil change and a long list of inspections. Unless the service is covered under warranty, or this is a new car and you want some piece of mind, I suggest only getting the oil change. it wont go away because their is a mechanical problem and or problem with oil change [ not enough oil wrong filter etc ] will need to have vehicle scanned for the fault code to determine the problem most auto stores offer this service for free

have you looked at the tires- if they are wore down the wear bars-little bands of rubber that cross the grooves in tread will be exposed and the noise is your warning to get new tires soon

for massage ( service now ) 1/ S.W off .2/ press the button on screen 3/ by anther hand S.W ON 4/ with press button turn to clock wise for a while untill disply change .5/ S.W Off and ON .

check button for tire presure adjuster yellow light press until sound coming . start . check

If it's a All Wheel Drive then it could be a gear oil leak that has caused a bearing in the drive train to fail. Just adding gear oil won't fix the problem, but may limit the damage until it's repaired.
If it's a Front Wheel Drive, then you may have a Wheel Hub Bearing Assembly failing. This usually has a ABS [ Anti-Lock Brake ] light associated with it.
Either is dangerous and should be checked ASAP.

you need to reset the maintenance reminder

I just checked the owner's manual. I think you may be looking at a brake warning lamp. See if this helps.

YOU HAVE TO RESET OIL LIGHT.ITS DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER SIDE INFORMATION CENTER.IT A CHECK MARK LOOKING SYMBOL..YOU PRESS HOLD RESET BUTTON FOR 5 SECONDS.

Feel safe about your trip as this a only warning lights that some issues are at hand concerning your car, it does not mean you can not travel 1000miles.

Just take your car for a scan and it will all be corrected.
