1992 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR,4g93t engine,1.8 Dohc turbo,cd5a chassis

Hi
Having starting problems with my lancer, at first I thought it was a starter motor problem as I was having prior problems when car was warm or had stalled then it would not starter until car was abit cooler. Now my car cranks over but doesn't fully start, when it does bite, it doesn't idle long & it sounds like a helicopter & then it back fires. My car is running rich and has a Sard race fuel pressure regulator which is reading 40psi, is this normal? would this be a fuel filter/fuel pump problem? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have the exact same problem of not starting even though turning over. I have a cc with a 4g93T, check everything from ignition, compression, IAC motor, plug gap, wiring and plug lead resistance & fuel pressure and FPR to no avail. Had an autosparkie go over it and it had him stuffed. He asked me where the ECU is and to give it a hard tap sorta like the amount you hate it not starting. Closer inspection of ECU numbers informed me it was incorrect. First bet: give it a hard tap and try start or have a look at a new EMS if you have the coin. Or mitsi wreckers may help in the hunt.

it could be your ignition leads or the spark plugs. check them and buy some new spark plugs because if the gap isnt right then it can have trouble when idling or pulling away.

If this does not work it could be dirty fuel injectors or fuel system.

first thing to do is remove spark plugs and if they smell really fuely you will need to change them if that doesnt help you will need to get the microtech tuned for a good coldstart , this depends on if its running stand alone or as a piggy back
cheers.

Use original starter motor, That is the correct way.If you think that bolts are not long enough use longer bolts or studs.

1993 mitsi lancer 4g93t cd5a, installing manual boost controller

I'm not too sure if those are setup like the Eclipse turbo engines, but those cars came stock with a BCS(boost control solenoid). That solenoid maintained the stock boost on those cars. In the eclipses, you would have to leave the electrical part of that solenoid connected, yet remove the vaccuum hoses to install a boost controller.

I really hate hot linking to other URLs, but I think this guide will help you out a lot.

1992 4g93t cd5a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR 1.8 Manual Dohc turbo starting/electrical problems

First you need to check all your fuses with a test light. The 12 volt light switch wire for the ilumimation of your gauges is just a park light feed, the best way to find it is using test light,it can be found in radio plug or park light switch or fuse board.Your check engine light is not so easy ,first I would check the bulb in dash, then you need to make sure of you lose wire tap connections the check engine light needs a feed to it to come on you need to check your aftermarket ecu wiring diagram to see where this is or get hold of a factory one to find it to see if you can manual trip it with test light.

1992 lancer gsr 1.8 dohc turbo. 4g93t eng cd5a chassis. start trouble shoot

9.3 is a really dead battery - replace it and check the alternator. I have seen them go bad with no dash indication. As to the oil being black, you may have worn piston rings, and probably need an engine re-build. Worn rings allow the exhaust of the engine contaminate the oil - you should also see increased oil consumption due to the vapors exiting via the PCV valve and being burned in the engine.
