1st find out what Toyota specs are , but in general , no , do not use any grade oil other the specified . Mixng the oil grades id just wrng and will destroy your $5.000 engine over a few dollar saving... DO NOT CHANGE THE GRADE OF OIL , USE ONLY THE RECOMENDED GRADE... THE BRAND : CASTROL GTX ONLY most other oils are recycled garbage...
depending on the ambient temperature of where you are that would be a good viscosity for low temperatures. When it gets hot in the area then change up to a 30w-50 viscosity. Make sure that you are using diesel grade oil as there are more additives in it than what is in petrol engine oil
Go with the schedule oil change as listed in the hand book. Otherwise 10.000 klm or 6 months . Change at 5000klm if difficult conditions. Type of oil Conditions dictate if you use a multi grade 10/15w- 20/30/40/50 grade oil Again check the hand book Mineral oil will do just a good a job as the more expensive synthentic types As to brands that is you choice.
NOT SURE WHY SOMEONE TOLD YOU THIS? BUT YOU HAVE A RANGE FOR YOUR TIMING HAVE TO CHECK SPECS BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GASOLINE GRADE YOUR HEARING KNOCKING YOUR VALVES COULD BE GETTING SMUDGED AND GUNKED UP I RECOMMEND CHANGING OIL RUNNING A BOTTLE OF LUCAS OIL STABILIZER WITH OIL REPLACES ONE QUART ALSO LUCAS FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER 3OZ TO EVERY TEN GALLONS OF GAS YOU CAN DO THIS WITH 87 GRADE KEEP TIRES INFLATED PROPERLY FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROPER OIL THESE ARE ALL FUEL SAVING TECHNIQUES THAT WORK!
Oil change recommended is every 3,000miles / 5000km for local short running around.
If you clock up the miles quickly then extend the oil changes to 6,000miles /10,000km
Oil filter is every second oil change.
Use reputable multi grade oil 15W/40 or similar, Do not use standard SAE 30 single grade oil. You do not need to use synthetic / semi-synthetic oils either.
New cars and truck manufactures recomend differend types of grades of oil when the engine is new. What they don't tell you when the engine receives 30,000 miles on it the grade of oil can be changed for better lubrication. Use 10w30 for normal use upon changing oil.
probably the wrong grade oil and the lash adjuster in a lifter does not like it, get a good flushing additive and follow the instructions, then re change the oil and use semi or fully synthetic of a winter grade.
The oil gets lighter as the engine heats up.
Was this problem there before you changed the oil? If no, thn the grade of the engine oil you have used (replace) could be of wrong specs., try using a higher grade.
Hope this helps!
