Remove the transmission pan, remove the transmission shifting assembly (19 10 mm head bolts) -- don't worry it will not fall apart -- there are three star shaped screw heads so be sure you have a tool to remove these -- DO NOT TIP the assembly as there are floating ball valves within it -- remove the top plate, take out the clip, replace solenoid & replace the unit -- BE SURE YOU NOTE WHICH OF THE WIRES GO WHEREFROM THE SOLENOID, PRIOR to removeal of the shifting assembly....
note: sorry for the typo's - computer delay and I'm short on time... the three star head screws are ON TOP of the transmission shift assembly - and they WILL NOT need to be removed (unless you are cleaning out the transmission shift assembly -- Also note that also there are two gaskets and a plate which if you are **very* careful, you will be able to reuse - If you DO NOT BREAK the gasket when removing the clips to pull out the solenoid you should be able to reuse it...
ALSO -- the dealer does not always have the part information as some of the parts are obsolete and not accessible - yet if you CALL FORD Customer Service 800# - they can help you FIND an EXPERIENCED Person who will be able to answer SPECIFIC questions and get you up and going again as I did...
Finally -- I knew nothing about transmissions or transmission repair prior to setting out on this, just had the tools and GOTTA GET"R DONE ATTITUDE...
Best Regards.
