wow, you only what guessing, on the 2005 WK grand Cherokee posted on non grand. no engine size stated
the trans brain and the engine brain (EFI)both think engine is overheating. with no tools , no books, no scan too, and no motivation to learn, then what is the answer
RTM ? it tells you to get the car serviced. the thermostat may be bad, or coolant never serviced in 10 long years, so is bad.
get there car fixed but like 99% of the helpless, and do that. asking how to fix a car with no tools or books on them is a receipt to danger, to you and car.
EG: I have no tools I want you to guess only, no diagnosis allowed here. go for that...
YES THERE IS A FUSE, BUT THERE IS ALSO A SWITCH MOUNTED ON THE TRNSMISSION, USUALLY THE WHERE GEAR SHIFTER HOOKS. HAS A SMALL LINKAGE ROD FROM SHIFTER LINKAGE TO SWITCH
Check your shifter linkage at the transmission, sounds like a broken or missing bushing once you see the connections there the problem should be visible. Hope this helps, let me know.
try pushing the gear selector button in and pulling the gear selector into 1st gear position, if it doesnt catch, leave it aligned with the "1" on the panel, let go of the button, then once the gear selector (shifter) is staionary int he 1 position pull back on it slightly without pusing in the button..
Hit the gas and see if it catches.. it is likely, you have a worn catch for the two gears that aren't grabbing.. if you hit speed bump or pot hole you may have to pull back on it genly while driving to get the gear back...
I think the problem is most likely in the shift linkage, manyually shift it into reverse at the trans (bypass shifter) and see if it goes in, is the shifter loose or has allot of play?
I have the same problem on a 65 c10 3 speed. Nothing is wrong with the mechanism, use the brackets from the kit and/or bend the original ones (they are relatively heavy gauge and will have to put them in a vise to do so). Get the rods to switch sides without colliding with each other.
The alternative i originally thought was to turn the entire shifter mechanism around, but that failed
Alternatively just leave it alone, and be the only one who knows how to drive the truck
