After several short trips around town my Ranger will sometimes not start. When I turn the ignition switch it sounds like it is going to start then sputters and dies. I often have to wait 20 or 30 minutes or even overnight before I can get it to start again. This only seems to happen in the summer and again, only after we've driven it for several short trips...

it starts after and hour or two
It could be as simple as a new fuel filter. The filter becomes blocked when running pulling all the derby in to the screen. When you leave it alone the pressure in the line goes down and the derby settles back down to the bottom of the filter waiting for you to pull it back through again. Running out of gas can cause the filter to get stuffed, pulling up all the garbage in the bottom of the tank. I change mine out about every 50,000. Good Luck
