2001 Dodge 2500 diesel quad cab 4x4. What is the function of the power steering fluid component that is mounted on the driver side fire wall which also supports the power brake master cylinder? And how do I stop the power steering fluid leak that is coming from both separations of this unit? Kenny in Shreveport

What you describe sounds like your hydroboost unit and if it is leaking you need to buy a new or rebuilt one. They are pretty easy to replace.

SOURCE: 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 quad cab diesel. Having tranny

1999 dodge up to 02 can shuttle shift in and out of lockup, most people think it is overdrive but it is lockup. It is caused by tps voltage jumping around. You'll find you will not see it on a scan tool. The dealer has a computer reflash, it doesn't fix the tps voltage bounce but it makes the computer not as sensitive about locking and unlocking the converter clutch with small voltage change at the tps. I had my truck reflashed, but on rare occasions it still does it a bit. Voltage bounce can start around 90,000 miles and continue to get worse with milage. It cost about $90.00.

SOURCE: 2001.5 Dodge Ram Diesel 2500 4x4 Brake Pedal drops to floor

It sounds like you have a bad mastercylinder cause when you panic brake it doesn't have time to bleed through the valve in the cylinder but under normal braking your foot is on pedal longer in turn giving the fluid time to bypass the valve in the mastercylinder in turn the pedal going to the floor.

I installed a new steering box on a 97 2500 diesel now the steering is hard and the brakes barely function. How do I bleed the system?

Loosen bleeder valves on the front calipers. Attach tubing/hose to the valve. Put other end of tube in a container with an inch or 2 of fluid (to prevent air from getting sucked back in)

Top off master cylinder reservoir, and put cover back on.

Have a helper apply some pressure on the brake, fluid will squirt out of the hose. Then tighten the valve while your helper keeps pressure on the pedal.

My '01 dodge 4x4 diesel had a simular problem turned out to be the dust cover or backing plate that had somehow moved probably due to expansion and contracting from the heat!
