I recently replaced my ignition module on my truck. It fixed the problem of it not starting but I am now having an issue with it idling rough. After starting it will idle very rough until I take and adjsut the distributor cap by rotating it by hand. It will run great for a short time and if you watch it under idle the cap will slowly rotate back to where it runs rough. Did I forget to tighten a screw somewhere that holds it in place?

Sonds like you need to tighten the distributor hold-down bolt lpcated at the base of the distributor where it goes into the intake manifold.

Yes, you shouldn't be able to turn it like that. Look under the distributor.

Dodge truck issues with idle

You read the codes so what were they exactly? That is only half of the issue. You can have codes that are showing up because something else failed. There is no code that says "replace injector"

1991 Ford Ranger, stuttering and turning off. Check engine light and battery light.

This could be caused by a variety of problems. If fuel injected I would start with a cleaning of the throttle plate assembly to insure minimun idle air flow is achieved. Does it run rough at idle or misfire? You may have developed a vacuum leak. Check for any loose or disconnected hoses under the hood. You could also have the onset of an ignition module failure. This condition is very hard to diagnose without lookinf at the vehicle. Hope this helps

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) that idles rough (almost stalls out), dies on start up and recently had a flashing engine light (backfire error). Any suggestions? No other issues, water pump and timing...

Could be the idle air control, once these start hanging up inside, they can cause as variety of problems with idle speed (can become wildly random) or simply a failure to idle at all.

These links should help:
Where is the idle air control valve located on 2004 Dodge Stratus

This could also be caused by a failing ignition pack.

2000 Chevy s10 2.2L very rough idle at low rpm

run a fuel pressure test, if that checks out fine it may be a faulty coil pack or ignition control module

2002 grand am 4 cylinder rough idle and rough running

Check the ignition control module. Sounds like the exact same problem I have had with mine. Took it to the dealership and the were able to tell me right away. The ignition control module is very easy to replace and is located on the top of the valve cover. Hope this helps!

1991 buick park avenue will not stay running and runs rough

I think you got your answer to the alarm issue. I had the same problem with rough idling, lack of power, and the chugging that occured when going up hill. I have a 1991 Park Avenue with 190k miles. Fixing the catalytic converter helped, but the real problem was in the ignition control module. It seems that older buicks will heat these units to the point that the glue inside melts and eventually exposes the electronics. Look for glue or exposed wires below the ignition coil. It's a $100 part that you should be able to change yourself. I hope that helps.
