My 1996 GMC JImyy is only blowing out defrost vents no matter what vent is selected. I am getting vaccum to the climate control(grey line has vaccum). It has a small air leak sound( on the climate control switch) on all settings except it strangely quits when defrost/combo is selected. I changed the dash switch out and no change. help

I had this problem too. On drivers side under the hood, literally right under where the hood shuts across from master cylinder. There is a small nipple that comes out of the fender way up under the fold in the fender. There is a hose that's supposed to hook to it, look for it.

SOURCE: air wont blow out of the front vents only the defrost vents

Not sure about your exact model but a lot of these are vacuum actuated. If one of the vac lines is broken, leaking or disconnected this will happen. Maybe take look under the dash to see if something is obvious while you try to switch it - look and listen, good luck.

SOURCE: Dash vents will not blow air. Defroster and floor vents blow fine.

Is it a new vehicle? I had a new vehicle that had the same problem. Answer was that the holes weren't punched out of the vent.

SOURCE: vent selector stuck on defrost (knob turns - no

There's a good possibilty that you have a vacuum line off. When the heater controls lose vacuum, the heater will go into the defrost mode. There should be a small line, about 1/8 inch in diameter, that goes from the engine to the firewall. It's most likely on the passenger side.

SOURCE: A/C not blowing thru vents just defroster and floor

It is a vent door actuator motor on top of the blower box,the dash has to be removed and set in the seats to replace the actuator motor.Cost for the part is about 50.00 dollars

Check for vacuum leaks. Common problem is the line that comes from the engine into the cabin of the car. It gets hard and brittle and cracks, then no vacuum to power the vent actuator pods.

92 buick park ave only blows heat through defrost

Sounds like you might have blown the BM unit. As far as the vent selection goes, I worked on a Buick LeSabre a few years ago with the same kind of trouble. There is a vacuum distribution block down under the glove compartment that directs the route air goes. It is notoriously trouble. In my case the block was poorly formed. Sometimes the vacuum connections on the block are plugged, sometimes they crack or break off. Unless you are a full blown Mr Fixit you just need to replace the block.

If I remember correctly the mode door is vacuum operated. Check to make sure that there is vacuum to the control head. If not is is possible you knocked the vacuum line off when replacing the heater core. The default position for a vacuum controlled mode door on just about every vehicle is the defrost position. This is so if there is a failure in the system you will at least still have a clear windshield to see through.

Climate control is on defrost only the auto

Check your vacuum pump located on the right side fenderwell. see if its running. Check the vacuum hose at the hubs for leaks or damage. repair if damaged. check for other vacuum leaks such as the grey hose going to the heater control valve.

Front vents will not work

If they are stuck on defrost, then the problem is a little vaccum line that comes through the firewall as all the climate controls are vaccum controlled,so look for a small green or black plastic line unhooked.
